Freight is bad atm. Wait until after the election. In the mean time get your bills paid down. Trust me in this.
ATM I need to have the clutch replaced in the truck. Just another joy of being an OO

Exactly...this sounds like company driver thinking while owning a truck.."THEY sent me here and told me xyz.
Reality is YOU own the truck YOU make the decisions.
BEFORE you truck off into another state, you're supposed to check outbound loads OR be prepared to DH out. It's not the trailers fault because I could load your trailer and make money here just like I load my own every week. I agree rates are low but once you learn the system, you can make it here at Mercer.Last edited: Oct 9, 2016
back street slider Thanks this. -
mi38’s real issue seems to be having bought a trailer designed to haul unicorns without securing any direct unicorn shippers first.
Why get a step deck and then restrict yourself by putting a Conestoga on it unless you have a direct customer asking for that type of trailer?DarkhorseEnterprises Thanks this. -
I've been looking at goingninto oo for a few months. Will definitely do flatbed if I do, I have a friend at mercer and he seems to do ok, pretty much stays in the Midwest and east. But from what I'm hearing, I may stay company for awhile and haul reefer dedicated like I'm doing. At least until several months after the election to see what shakes out and what doesn't. This wasn't my thread but thanks for the info.

The short, easy, and most logical/believable answer? "I HATE tarping!"

Another point to consider is, with Mercer, you don't HAVE to have a trailer. You can get one from them for pretty decent terms. Haven't known anyone that had to break their lease. But scuttlebut says it's pretty much a walk away deal.
I also feel they are very fair with their payment structure. If getting a used trailer, which most are, and the previous owner made 13 of 60 payments, that's where you take over. Same payment amount. -
The issue is that there is no freight. The real problem is many of the Mercer brokers are lazy and won't hustle or even visit a customer for freight. Many of the brokers are content with waiting for a phone call....or just pulling loads off the DAT, CH Robinson, TQL, ATS load boards......just to name a few.

Are u still with mercer?
