Can't afford Amtrak? You can usually fly cheaper than taking Amtrak.

Finally a comment worth reading.....while the pro-eld People have drank the "just be compliant" propaganda while we All get corralled into a prison Planet ,one house bill at a time....90 percent of truckers are safe drivers who know when they're sleepy and how to adjust for shippers and receivers who couldn't care less about an appointment time.....No other group of people any Any lifestyle should be dictated by the few bad apples.....Follow the money trail.

A one truck/trailer owner operator with live load/Unloading on both ends DOES NOT have a luxury of"Trip planning".....These thousands of drivers with ELD's for Mega Carriers have a full department planning their steps, drop and hook, re-powered loads, relays.etc,...So yes ELD's are probably good to you ......More than likely,...big Carriers are going to try to have a hiring blitz when capacity is reduced moving the typical freight like "produce" and other related moves that incur extended Wait times.

Has anyone here ever been towed or threatened with it for refusing to leave a customer after running out of your hours? I am just curious.

That is a catch 22 as well. You are on private property, if you are there and they don't want you there you are trespassing, although their actions resulted in the situation at hand in the first place.

If they force you to leave they are forcing you to break the law as well once your steer tires touch the street or highway right of way.

I don't even think it would take a country wide shut down, 25% of the reefer trucks refusing to leave shippers and receivers since they are out of hours would put a stop this a lot of this garbage real quick...booking a truck to pick up watermelons or chickens when the product is still sitting in the dirt or pecking at the ground at your appointment time. Smdh that garbage needs to stop.

And all of you "plan ahead" "plan your day in advance" magical fairies need to ####. Most of you work for big box outfits with terminals all over the country that can relay loads if you need to.

I can manage my own time just fine, it's shippers and receivers that cause the most headaches.

I know they can be a pain. After so long in this industry you can pretty much guess if its going to be a long wait or get you right away especially customers you've been to before.

What's really sad is.... I've been forced to leave being parked on a dead end street near Atlanta..1am, no car traffic,.. Police knocks on my door and four other truck drivers....his response, .. leave or get ticketed and possibly towed..... I said that to say, .. People in "Authority" Don't think for themselves or with any compassion, they all just say "I'm just DOING MY JOB"....and on my other point, jealousy between drivers plays a big part in who's in favor of ELD's.....The ELD drivers want to stop or reduce our income, AGAIN, it's not about safety.... I am much safer when I sleep when I'm tired instead of when the computer says I must sleep....... Basically the ELD Driver is saying,"if I got to pull over, you so called renegades should have to stop too.....now we're getting to the meat of the issue of the favorable idea of ELD's.

I wouldn't have a problem with ELD if we went back to the 2003 and before 8 hours break, split your sleeper however you want it rule.

Now the ATA is doing a "study" to see if splitting the sleeper any way you want it is safe.

The study has been completed over and over for the past 14 years. There were fewer wrecks, better parking and fewer trucks on the road because the rules weren't so restrictive.

But what to I know, I'm just an outlaw that knows when I'm really tired and when I can really drive.

    Shame on me.
