Wish I were that lucky, my transmission pooched last Thursday while tech was road testing it and company had another unit for me immediately. I would gladly stay home for the 2 weeks (minimum) freight liner is going to have the truck

Will they put abandonment on my dac in this situation?

I would just call your current company and tell them you have some important personal business to attend to and you are leaving. That is all they need to know. After that it is on them to recover their own truck and all responsibility is off you. Sure they might threaten abandonment and try to guilt trip you into waiting a few more days. At that point you say $1000 a day to wait because I have important business to attend to.

If the truck is in some random shop in some far away place, yeah, you have to wait for it and get it back to the nearest company terminal or it would be abandonment. If it's in the shop at one of the company's terminals you can quit and go home.
Either way they should be paying you something, at least like $100 a day plus hotel to sit around and babysit their problem child truck while you're far from home. This is why OTR companies have such horrendous reputations and turnover. they treat the drivers like it should be some god*amn privilege and honor of theirs to donate a bunch of their free time away from home for little to no compensation to carry out company business.Last edited: Aug 3, 2017
johnwayne187 Thanks this. -
You should always ask if you get break down pay before taking a job.
-
I think most companies will laugh at you.
BEing local however might be a different story. Since you might be on the clock. I get paid by the load but i get hourly for breakdown. I"m local though. -

Like all the others posters have said here, I agree with them on the 1099 as well. Worked one in 2008 for six months and now the employer's nowhere to be found. Great for jobs that only care about the last, 3-4 years. Dumpy noodles for the one's that search back the entire 10!!
As for the DAC/Hireright, I don't sweat that one as much as the FMCSA PSP scores.
