Currently, If one moves from a dock to a parking area at a customer.
OR
From the customer to a truck stop within 2 miles of the customer. (5 miles but its a bit tricky)
Most EOBR trucks will not actually switch to the drive line or interrupt the sleeper birth.
If this is taken away, I don't see how drivers are going to be able to make any money safely in this industry anymore if they are forced to arrive at a receiver or shipper with 10+ hours left on their 14?
If you have an afternoon appointment, that means you are going to have to drive nights (inherently dangerous) on any afternoon appointments now. Also, your schedule is going to be all over the place now and you won't be able to get nearly as many miles....
Meaning...Detention pay is going to need to go up sharply OR line haul rates are going to need to significantly increase considering the dramatic increase in per mile pay for the drivers (to make up for the fewer miles).
Also, just a thought, how clever were those major companies lobbying for this eh? They have EOBR and now their smaller competition being forced to use ELDs will be decimated for at least another year until the ELD requirements hit the mega carriers with EOBRs.

OTR drivers should have no problem producing 1700-1800 miles per week in the ELD times.

I foresee more dropping at the receiver, and coming back after the load is unloaded, or swapping for another trailer that is empty, like the mixing centers do with dropped trailers. Specifically the Indianapolis Mixing Center at Lebanon, IN, as the example I'm familiar with. This isn't without problems, either.
Far removed from the multiple drops delivered as soon as the load is ready where I'm at now. -
The Megas wanted CSA2010 to weed out all the small companies, that backfired big time on them.stayinback and mhyn Thank this. -
First. There is no 2 mile exemption. 2nd your company sets the time or distances on when drive time starts. And I'm on them and get all the miles I can take.
