Companies can and do buy new equipment. It's not necessarily their fault if the trucks break down.
New trucks today have very complicated engines and emissions systems that have been a problem since they came about.
I purchased my truck new in 2003 to avoid the emissions issues. I still have the truck. No breakdown issues here.

OP is 100% correct. Crete stole $150 from me for a "clean out charge" for having to clean out my truck after quitting (even gave them 2 weeks notice and kept to it), which is bs because I cleaned it myself and took pictures and even video. I have been calling them for 2 weeks now and they are ducking and dodging me and acting as if they have to talk to the CEO himself to authorize giving me my money back, even though I even have paperwork stating that I cleaned the truck. This company is run by crooks, the equipment stays broken down, the wait time for repair is atrocious. The miles were very good at first and I was excited that I had lucked up and found a very good company but I soon found out that Crete is very over hyped. Yes they pay above avg per mile but what's the point if you are only getting 1800 miles per week because of dispatcher errors and breakdowns? Not all bad but honestly, nowhere near as good as some let on either. Still fighting to get my money back and even considering speaking with an attorney. I do NOT like my money being stolen from me. It's not even about the money, it's the principle. I worked hard and did my job with no issue and you want to steal from me when I leave after having given you 2 weeks notice? Stay away from this place IMO.

How come it never seems to work when I want to charge a company for cleaning out one of their dirty old grimy trucks?

I get tired of the "double standard" stuff in the industry. The company is going to win every time, on every issue, always.

My wife and I have been driving for Shaffer Trucking over 5 years. Always have had a new truck and have and still average 5500 mi a week. At $.55 a mi we make a good living. I'm not saying this place is perfect but no company is. We have been driving for 20 years and wish we would have started here. I have found that when someone is complaining about a company they have worked for, they'll probably be doing the same at the next. Just saying!

Agreed, it is a hit or miss in this subforum. Even when all your limbs are off, truckers here will still say its only a flesh wound. You can still drive with your teeth!

That's not necessarily true. I can only drive 3 weeks out of the month because I turn into a bat once a month for a week (I'm 350 years old). Everyone here seems to understand there's no way I can drive when I'm a bat. But, I don't complain about it either. I just drink another pint of the red stuff and go with the flow.
