More than likely, it is coming from the federal government.

When I went to the Kansas DMV to renew my driver's license, (regular class "C" car license), I needed my birth certificate, Social Security card, (cannot be laminated), and a utility bill for proof of address.

This in turn gets you the enhanced driver's license which will allow you to board any plane at any airport, and allow you access to any federal building.

Umm, you can board any domestic plane and enter federal buildings with a regular license or state issued ID. An enhanced license simply acts as a pseudo North American passport, allowing access to Canada and Mexico via foot, vehicle, rail or boat. It does not provide access to board any international flight from anywhere, only a Passort book or military orders provide such access.

 

Note for previous post....military orders only provide access to international flights resulting in the final destination stated on said orders. Some may twist that into me trying to say if you have military orders, you can board any plane, going anywhere....

 

I'm not pissed about that, I am pissed that I have to show a birth certificate to someone to prove who I am after almost 45 years of having a drivers' license in this state.

I just renewed my license 3 months ago. All I had to do was pay the fees and drop the hazmat.

The birth certificate thing was a few years back when the new program started.

 

Could be worse, all the birth certificates for Puerto Rico before a certain year were invalidated a few years back. Something about corruption and wide scale identity theft. My in-laws had to deal with that, but I forget what it involved getting it cleared up.

That's home to me too. I'll talk to the revenuer here and see what's what. I know that the Real ID Enhanced Licenses are mandatory by 2020 plus other security based checks on your residence etc. to get a CDL.

But this video thing for trafficking? Erm... Ive been chasing off people in Nogales long before there was a Customs there making sure they dont try to get through now.

It's a new law effective this year July 31 our Legislative Laws day.

If your company is already TAT etc there should be no need for you to go through the video process.

I think this is a expanding progression towards a sort of additional controls and expenses trying to contain something that might not always be containable.

Wrong , you won't be able to get on a plane or inter a fedral building much longer without a ' Real ID '
The law is already in place , my state you have until 2020 if memory serves to get the ' REAL ID ' .
You don't ' Have To ' But Again if you don't get it You won't be flying or alowed in a fedral building.
