Just curious what advantages/disadvantages do "roll up" trailer doors have over the traditional "swing out" trailer doors. Just curious since every single company I've worked for has only had the "roll up" trailers.
Also how about those trailer with side doors; I typically see furniture companies using them(53 ft trailers).

Roll up door reefers allow you to back up to the dock with the door closed. This helps maintain temp as the swing door reefers need to opened before backing up to most docks. The wide open doors will cause a temp change especially if the driver takes a long time to hit the dock properly.
The disadvantage of a roll up reefer is the door uses some of the trailer headroom so really tall freight might not fit. The width is also compromised. -
Less likely to damage them at warehouses cause aint got to worry bout tearing a door off.

Roll up doors are awesome in the rain and winter weather. Open on the dock.
Trls with roll ups are not as wide/ tall as swing door trailers. - less freight.
Backing with a roll up= more room and easier to see the dock. -
-
Also - Roll up doors allow for seal and lock control (security) at the dock level, as opposed to losing security once the trailer is pulled out by whoever, and before closing doors and [possbily] following secure protocols
Rolls up doors require much more maintenance for proper operation and are considered an additional hazard potential when raising/closing from the ground. -
Try opening a roll up, when some of the freight ends up jammed against it. Or a spring, or roller breaks.

Swinging doors are much simpler, less stuff the tear up. I've tried to open a roll up with a broken spring, you'd be surprised at how heavy they are without the spring to help. Another bad thing about roll ups is forklift operators like to hit the track or the top of the door and tear things up. They are nicer to operate though.
