Yes, sometimes. but as many posters have already said its what you make of it. My signature here sums up my outlook of it. "Someone once told me......."

You may not be "educated" , but it seems that you can put a few paragraphs together better than many young people who have a bachelors degree these days. I have to question someone with a business degree or management degree whose first business decision is to go over 100k in debt that is not dischargeable in bankruptcy if it does not work out.

I love my truck, like my family. So, no it is not a miserable job for me. That's why I hang stuff to keep me happy.

My humble opinion, it tends to be miserable for those who took it up because their old career fell out. Ten or twelve hour days, six or seven day weeks and everything else shakes up someone who has had the nine to five style.

Also, some people get into trucking because they were curious. Those kind rarely stick with it.

People adapt, get comfortable and become complacent with OTR. One day they might take a long hard look and decide for a change...or not. I took a year and a half off work completely when I decided i wanted to sleep in my own home every night.

I guess because I've never been able to get into a stable 9-5 I never had that problem. From temp work to retail to a 2nd shift job to jobs with tons of o/t. I think I've had maybe one year in my life combined of a stable 9-5.

It's only really frustrating when you have time off and you realize how much society is geared towards the 9-5 crowd. (i.e. All the decent tv is on at night, daytime tv assumes you're ignorant, out of work or injured. Hard to go shopping 'after' work. Can't go to a bar/club.)

But a desk job must be easy as ####. Assuming you know whatever software they use. Desk jockeys claim their jobs are hard but look how many try trucking and wash out.

Everything is paid for, including the truck, have a house, paid for, and the only debt is the lease on the 2017 Chevy Silverado, no credit cards, cash is KING... Oh, and the cell phones, 9 grand kids, utilities and cable. Life sucks. Drinking beer in the garage waiting for the weather to clear so that I can install the new CAC and do the overhead in the ProStar. Looking like Monday on that...

Oh, I thank GOD everyday for my miserable life. ;-)
