Your post is somewhat different. The personal conveyance applicability issue was answered in the first response. As for following other regulations, i.e., weight, road restrictions, attendance at port of entry, etc., regardless of the status of the driver, the truck's CMV status doesn't change. So, if you are on your way to get groceries while bobtailing under personal conveyance and a sign says "All CMVs Enter Scale", you still have to enter the scale.

There is no restriction regarding hours for use of personal conveyance if you are on your 10-hour break, a 34-hour reset or you're at home for a week, so long as you haven't been placed out-of-service (per FMCSA Guidance). You can be up against your 11/14/70 (or even beyond your 14/70 if you were on-duty but not driving) and still use PC.

 

Basically you've said what i've said in a more complicated way, keep in mind the Kiss principle "Keep it simple Silly."

 

You asked a question and your self-response to it in your post is wrong.


Just keepin' it simple.

 

Where is the fridge? At home? Take the truck home and load it up. Is it at the Mall? In the course of your travels, stop at the mall and pick up your fridge.

I did this with my small Honda generator and small stand up air conditioner. Googled where the Honda dealers were located for a few days. Finally found one on my route and just 'breadcrumbed' it into my GPS as a stop along my route and swooped in and bought and paid for the generator. Couple days later found a Sears and popped in and picked up an air conditioner.

 

I did regularly bobtail where I wanted to go when I was company at swift, but I had to log it. When I leased a truck on to swift, I got 3 hours a day personal conveyance time. I use it ALL the time.

 

I have yet to be turned away from a Wal-Mart. Even those that state no truck parking will allow you if you go in and tell them it's only for an hour or so to do some shopping. What they don't want is loads of trucks overnighting and dumping trash on the property or the OTR guys who live locally leaving their trucks there for days when on hometime.

 

Only if you want them to say no. What I do is tell them I'll be there in a bit to make such and such purchase or "I need to send my wife some money" and then rather than ask if it's ok, I ask where is best to park and what entrance to take. I never give them the chance to believe it's their decision. It's like when I wanted to hang out with my friend when we were in school, he'd ask his parents like "you don't want me to go out tonight do you?!"

Like bro, let me ask them next time... and then I'd tell them we were going out and that I'd have him home early.
