Yeap, if they are soaked or saturated get new shoes. You don't want your brakes grabbing or under-performing do you? Some shops won't warranty the seal if your brakes got soaked and you fail to change them (Boss Shop).
Stop and check your new seals often after you get them changed that first day. Seals can be a little tricky and easily damaged when installing them, and make sure they tighten your wheel bearing correctly...I'd stand over them and ask them what they are doing... Don't have to be a dick, just act like you wanna learn something
1951 ford, mtoo and HalpinUout Thank this. -
Here's what my NEW seal looked like 150 miles down the road... Hence, my suggestion on checking it shortly afterwards.

Check your spindle out really closely too... any bluing or gouges and you'll have reoccuring seal problems.HalpinUout Thanks this.

At home ill throw them in the parts washer to get all the oil out, assuming they got a lot of meat on them. But out on the road? Just get new shoes.
Bad installs are so common that i just do it myself. Takes a little more than an hour. -
They've been really cool showing me everything etc etc... They have a cleaning machine/tub type deal with a solution that he has been using to clean the axle while I've been here talking with them... I am having new brakes put on as you can see in the picture there's tons of oil in therewhoopNride and thaistick Thank this.

Always have them check the vent on the axle tube also . These block up with road grime and the rear builds pressure from hot oil and the pops seals also. A good service guy will usually spin the tin cap with his fingers to knock the crude out or when in doubt wash it out with brake clean off the truck or replace it for a couple of bucks.

I just spin it out and blow through it to make sure its not cloggedHighway Sailor and HalpinUout Thank this.

Well turns out that my brakes that are on here are about 1 inch wider than standard size brakes that they stock... So I had them go ahead and put the brakes they have on there which leaves bigger gap than what is generally on a drum... From what they are saying it isn't a DOT violation or anything like that and it's not going to hurt anything... Only $67 not a big deal to swap it out... plan on trying to get some that match mine on my way tomorrow..
