How did you manage to drive company A's truck so far without dispatch? Just curious. Or was it YOUR truck?

For those that want to pontificate and say you should only work for companies in your home area. There may be good reasons why drivers choose companies headquartered not in their area. For me it is so that I can visit the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg. I hadn't been able to see my parents in about 7 years. My father died during that time and i wasnt abel even to get to his funeral. Because I chose a company based in Mo I have been able to visit my mother, and tomorrow will be able to spend Christmas with my mother.

I am sorry if some of you feel a driver should be limited to a certain area. BUT, THERE MAY BE REASONS PEOPLE MAKE CHOICES YOU DONT KNOW ABOUT.

    SingingWolf and scottied67 Thank this.

I consider a certain amount of savings while OTR and the ability to get home from any point in the USA at any time regardless of form of transport a asset. We once dropped the rig off in FFE Memphis went across town to rent a car, piled everything into it and drove it home, got one of our cars and dropped rental off. Easy. One of the easiest days we had as far as getting home.

The last few companies I ran for were less than a hour from home so it's not difficult at all. Still ran the 48.

As far as locations with family etc, usually dispatch makes sure not to route you that way if they find that you have such a such in a city somewhere, the theory is that if you are not routed that way, your left door will stay shut and you roll. It works for many.

It is really hard to route you away from their main location.

Get some boxes, load them up, take to UPS and send to new employer, head to airport. That is how I have done it in the past. No way in hell will you catch me on a bus.

I think he's just saying don't work for a company several states away and then feel victimized because it's not convenient. If you volunteer for it, you get it.

Get routed home for home time before you give notice and unload you're truck except for two bags you can take on a bus. Get a bus ticket from your new employer. Once on the road get routed home to pick up your stuff.
