Hey all,
Estes Express Lines has two openings in my area. One is Combination Local/Regional and the other is Regional OTR. What are the differences? Which pays more? And what are the schedules like for them?
Also, is there any reason I shouldn’t apply here? Looking for my first trucking job and this place sounds like a decent gig.
Thank you in advance.

@jungledrums maybe will offer some suggestions.
jungledrums Thanks this. -
Combo is a fill in driver. You will fill in for schedule runs when a guy is out. It can involve running p&d, linehaul, or hub/dock work. You will be home every day or every other day.
Regional otr is 5 days out 2 days off. Sleeping in hotels when done. No dockwork. Extraboard is regional otr. Extraboard pays better. Terminal to terminal.jungledrums, AzTrucker13 and Redtwin Thank this. -
I really appreciate this!!

Wait...Estes as your first trucking job? Are they hiring out of school now? Just a fair warning - that's one of the better jobs out there, and they're very unlikely to hire someone without experience.
I'm not saying it has never happened, but that it's not common. I would bet a paycheck that fewer than 1% of their new hires are brand new drivers. I don't know if they have a dock-to-driver program, but that would more likely be a way for a rookie to get on with them.
Ask that question here: Estes Express Lines or in the LTL section of this forum, where more Estes drivers hang out. -
Estes TM told me they require 1 year, try for a Dock job if you want Estes. Same with other LTL companies. Keyword for Fedex Freight is Apprentice, YRC is (Less than one year), etc, just look for the most entry level position possible.

I have no clue! Haha. It didn’t say any experience required. I filled it out though. I was just curious on their wording with the titles. I’ll let you know what they say if they call!Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

You probably right. I’m not really looking into LTL too much. I’d rather do Tanker but figured I’d give this a shot. It’s one of the only ####ing companies close with good pay and local/Regional work. At least from what I can find out.

Estes has their own trucking school ...
"Earn while you learn". Hire on as a dock worker and during your work day they teach you how to drive and earn your cdl.Bob Dobalina and AzTrucker13 Thank this. -
