I’ve always heard the saying “you’re so slow, you can’t catch a cold”. Guess that’s not the case with you :)

There is a new Pilot being built in Lamar, CO (US287) across from the Loves. Looks like it's going to open soon.

I almost missed my own wedding cuz of that fuel stop. Had so much dirt in their fuel the small fuel filter lid imploded, of course it was on a weekend and we had to have the replacement picked up by another JCT in Bakersfield on his way out. I knew I had fuel filter issues and stopped at little america to see if they had a set of replacements. They said sorry no, must have fueled at Speedys huh? Never again.

It amazes me what blows peoples minds. I was talking to another driver and some how we got on the subject of banks and overdraft protection.

He talked about how he loved the overdraft protection because it would allow him to overdraw his account and he did this on a fairly regular basis.

I said, yeah, but those fees hurt you bad. It's what like $39 per transaction thar takes you further and further into the negative. I even said I was willing to bet that his "pay issues" where because of your overdraw habits.

I then mentioned that my bank offers the same thing (all banks do i think), but opted out of it. He asked why. So, I answered with because if I don't have the money in the bank to pay for something; then I shouldn't be buying it.

His mind was blown. He had that blank stare to indicate that.

Wells Fargo used to have this product and I don't know if they still do but it was called direct deposit advance. Basically in your personal account it would average out your direct deposits and let you advance future direct deposits after a certain time.. it was basically a somewhat cheaper payday loan and you can only take them a certain amount of consecutive times before you had to wait to take another one.

It was cheaper than doing overdraft protection if you did it soon enough and an overdraft protection transfer from another account with something like 12:50.

The reason I bring this up is I used to be a telephone Banker for Wells Fargo and I saw some very very messed up accounts and what this product and overdraft protection can do based on how they process debits and credits.

I think they've cleaned it up recently but when I was working there they send the biggest charge through first because it's usually most important like rent and if that big charge pushes you negative all of your little charges behind it each generate a $39 charge I saw a counts with 15 of those #### things in one day.

I can't tell you how many times I had to send a phone call to a manager when someone became completely irate that they had 450 to $500 in overdraft charges in one week after they admit that they didn't keep a checkbook or check their balance that it was the bank's responsibility for some reason and all I could do is refund one of them back.

Me and my wife used to like having the overdraft protection til we learned the hard way how it really works (your example above happened to us years ago). After that fiasco, we opted out of overdraft protection. We try to keep a tight control of our money, but every now and then, we lose track and it's nice knowing our account can't ever go in the negative.

Also all the stories that recently came out about tellers having to sell stuff and fudging numbers is entirely true. We were basically forced to delay giving callers information that they asked for like their balance just to look through their accounts to find products to offer the front end system would recommend stuff based off of what they had and we had to maintain a certain Revenue per call or else we Face being written up. You had to maintain something like a $4 average per call a product sold and I wasn't even in the sales department.

This was also during the 2008 financial crisis and we were pushing a lot of home equity line of credit. I really hope none of my customers lost their house.

This is a much bigger problem than people wanna let on... Way too many folks live beyond their means.. Many folks just look for others to bail them out
