is this common. Where you just been running so hard for weeks even months that every now and then you just don't drive for a day to get some energy back even though you have plenty of hours left on your 70 to commit to any load

Of course. We all need some relaxation to keep from going insane. Some just need less of it.

I request time off where a truck stop is walking distance to really good food and drink... take a 34, come back feeling better. I call these mental health days.

Amarillo works well for me, its a good freight lane for my company.

Yes, almost every OTR trucker will take some time. Sometimes because of missed appointments or slow freight they have no choice. In my case about 3 or 4 times a year I developed debilitating migraine headaches. I now know why today as it was an early precursor to epilepsy. When they happened I got out of my truck and stayed in a hotel for 2 sometimes 3 days.

If you want days off, take days off. If you're gonna be going to a place and they have some event, like a car race, concert, festivals, boxing match/mma, and you are going thru, tell your travel agent beforehand.

Outside of home time which is usually 7-10 days, I never take a break. I do appreciate them when there is extra time on a load to squeeze in a reset, but otherwise I run as hard as I can.
