Actually the colder it is the better the traction. The worse conditions for driving on hard pack snow occur as you get within about 10 degrees of the freezing point and warmer, then it gets really slick.

That's normal ice build up. Keep the hammer down. Or chain up if you think it's slickery. Usually a lot of sand on the ice in Montana.

I like running across Wyoming when the temps are in the negative numbers. Minus 22, good to go. Colder the better.

from 2000 to 2004 I was pulling a reefer from LA to Aurora, CO . My back haul was from Fort Collins area to SLC then LV and last stop in LA. Wintertime was nightmare when I was crossing WY....Stopped doing it in 2005 when i sold the reefer .
