If you are referring to the silly stupid way the FMCSA regulations are set up and enforced I totally agree. However I learned most of everything I know from both my father and my years on the road. The overriding thing my father AS WELL as the other men of his generation taught me was the use of common sense and critical thinking. In this industry it is a MUST!

The HOS your 70 also includes "time on duty not driving"
With out a reset during an 8 day period I have a hard time getting 70 hours of drive time in a week.

To the OP and others. You still need the skills to fill out a paper log book, for those times your ELD stops working.

LOL, your comment for some reason reminded me of a time on the Virginia scales on I 77 I was stopped and the officer asked me for my log book. I thought it was funny to ask him, which one? He did not think it was funny. However the other officer that heard my question did. The first cop looked at my correct logbook and told me to get the (real nasty word insert here) out of his scale house. I never ever did that again!

Yes. That is referred to as "running on recap hours" or simply "running recap". Before there was a 34 hour restart option, that is how us old farts use to run. And, unless you end up working for a company that uses the 60 hours in 7 days logbook, you need to retrain your mind to think of a week as 8 days when it comes to logbooks.
