I agree and it is what I have said many times on these forums. One can work at the worst company and still succeed and even be happy just by the attitude he/she carries. It is the old adage of what you will do when handed lemons. It is also the same when it comes to the statement that you can attract more with honey then vinegar. Management will rarely listen to drivers who constantly complain. However, if you are doing your best and have a good attitude, you can approach management with a suggestion and they will be more open to it.

Morning, drivers new to this site have 30 plus years on the road hauling new furniture out of nc, now thanks to china imports we are mostly out jobs here, have applied to some of the large guys, was told all they wanted was student drivers and recruits, so much for the experience and time on the road, not to mention good safety and driving records, but swift has to be the worst no way they could peddle 30 stops of furniture in a month, let alone 2 days, least not with the same trailer tandems, question anybody know anything about jct in tulsa have some friends going there ???? Thanks stick hauler

I don't know if there is a worst trucking Co.what one driver dislike's I might like .I thank you have to look at the personality of the Company. Is it best suited for YOU.
Do they get me home or do you even want to go home.
can my family ride with me.(or girl friend)
can I take the truck home.
do i drive the same truck all the time.
How do the pay. lay over ,break down.
Some company will give you 40 or 45 per mile but do you get any miles?40 cents of nothing is nothing if your setting in a truck stop.
Are you known by your name or just a number?
Is this Company good for me ?

    Lilbit Thanks this.

I have posted several messages to some of these threads with the same overall message: Once you get with a decent company, your attitude is what drives the rest of your success. Although this is true in virtually every aspect of our lives, there is another factor that is being overlooked by severl of your posts. (Several being more than one poster, not just pawpaw.) Pawpaw, I disagree with you on this particular thread to this extent; while it is true that your job will pretty much be what you make of it, there is one VERY important aspect that MUST be served FIRST. A driver has to decide what they are willing to and what they are not willing to put up with. Then find a company that fits that mold, so to speak. I realize that finding a company that fits your idea perfectly isn't really going to happen, I don't care who you are, but everytime something comes up that is not a part of your dream job, you still have to go back and re-evaluate the "what you are and what you are not willing to put up with."

If some of you drivers get with a company that you just can't deal with, and you don't have the ability to leave for whatever reason, then it's your responsibility to adjust your threasholds of "what you are and what you are not willing to put up with."

Right now, the companies who are worth working for are ONLY hiring well seasoned drivers with impecable records. With the economy the way it is, they now have the ability to be very selective. Companies who are only hiring newbies are just trying to get through the economic times the best way they can financially. By hiring newbies and keeping a good turnover of newbies, their payroll takes less of a hit. They roll the dice and decide that taking the risk of inexperienced drivers may be better financially than having to pay experienced drivers at the industry's payscale for that experience. These companies just hope that they don't have too many costly accidents or claims due to the inexperience of the newbies.

Stick Hauler, I do know of a company who has a pretty solid Southeastern fleet that is hiring ONLY very experienced drivers right now. If you're interested, let me know, then I'll post the info for you.

Y'all be safe and have a great Christmas Holiday Season!

Stick Hauler, Crete was the company that I was talking about. I was over at the Marietta terminal about a month ago and had a pretty lengthy visit with the person who is over the Southeast regional operations. At that time they were still holding their own pretty well, but when I was over there today, that picture had changed a good deal. I've been trying to keep up with a lot of the traffic many of the companies have and so far, while everyone is in the tank pretty deep, Crete is still one of the better performing companies at this time. They are also one of the only companies out there that doesn't owe anyone anything because of their own liquidity.

Ray indicated that North Carolina is just about dead for everyone for regional stuff. However, if you went with the national fleet, they would still be able to get you home with decent regularity. Maybe not what you would want with a regional position, but still with decent regualarity. I have worked for Duane Acklie for right at about 20 years at one of his carriers or another. I can tell you this with absolute certainty; those who hang in there and perform with a great attitude through the tough times are well rewarded in the good times.

Since no one with whom I have spoken in the industry has ever seen times this tough, everyone also realizes that sooner or later, and not as soon as everyone would like, the tides will change for the better. Crete is currently hiring selective candidates for the national fleet. Of course this conversation is really one that I'd rather have over the phone, as I don't really have a lot of time to sit at the computer, but it's difficult with the restrictions this site places on new posters. Let me know if you need more info and I'll do what I can to help out. Best of luck during these difficult times.

Who's The Worst Of Them ALL to work for?

The short answer: All of them. Trying to find a good trucking company to work for is like running east, trying to catch a sunset. No matter how hard you try, it's not there.
Go to college or trade school, and get into a decent and rewarding career.
Don't let anyone BS you, most truck drivers only make 20 to 30,000 per year. The BS they have to put up with is certainly not worth the low pay.
Quit "running east" looking for your sunset. It ain't there.
