I was originally going to go with a trucking company that offers cdl training with a one year commitment but after doing research have decided against that and have decided to go to an actual cdl school near me. I was creating a list of questions to ask them to see what all they offer, what I need to do in order to prepare for cdl school and to compare their program to others. I was wondering what are some questions that a person who is getting their cdl for the first time should ask the school/company they’re training through? And what are some things they should look for?

Don't overthink it. If the school is 160 hours, most companies will hire you at graduation and the companies don't care what the name of the school is.
A few companies do have a list of specific schools they hire from, but most don't care as long as it's 160 hrs. Get all the endorsements and start studying now by scrolling to the top of this page and clicking on "CDL Practice Tests" and memorize all that because you'll need your cdl permit before starting school.Back2truckin and Rollr4872 Thank this. -
how many students per truck (as that amounts to time practicing)
are school supplies like books provided with the tuition price, or are they extra charge
what is the "allowed" amount of days you can be absent and NOT have to make up that time.
is there an extra cost if you fail the DMV road test and you need more practice till your next DMV road test?
does the school send you to a DOT doctor for the included tuition, or do you pay that out of pocket as an extra charge.Rollr4872 and BazookaJoe Thank this. -
I would ask if they are accredited or certified and by whom.
This could deterdete who will hire you.
Sage Schools, for instance are Accredited by PTI and Certified by ATA I believe.Back2truckin and Rollr4872 Thank this. -

I'm still fluctuating on getting my training through a company or a school. There is a school near me that has a 5 week class in September that I may end up taking instead. I have a CDL test prep book that I just got that I plan on studying over the next few weeks. -

Find out what the student to instructor ratio is...
too many students, not enough trainers = not enough time to train you !!!Back2truckin and Rollr4872 Thank this.
