Just an FYI, if your previous employer tells a prospective employer things that are not true, that is illegal. He may not have much money, but you could tarnish his record worse than he could tarnish yours.

While true, it's almost impossible to fight.
    1. You have to prove it's a lie and not simply a disagreement of opinion.
    2. You have to prove he even said it. No, calling in the new bos is not proof. It becomes a he said / she said situation that there is very likely no proof either way.

Then once you do get a judgement in your favor, there is the issue of collecting....
As for his reputation, well if he's lying about his ex ex-drivers he likely already has a bad reputation and he doesn't care.

    Congratulations on the move up!
If any issues come up with the new truck, talk to the boss, and "nip it in the bud."

Op one more time. I've been with my new boss a little over three months. Today he and his admin manager informed me they are giving me a raise. Just the usual few more cents per mile, but you know how it adds up. I've been able to have more fun on breaks. Plus pickup some much needed personal equipment and a few toys. Most importantly, I'm cleaning up some outstanding debts that were beginning to cost me much worry.

I've been working hard, they said. And are very pleased with my professionalism, courtesy, and over all performance. Of course, they also touched on a few minor discrepancies to work on. Mainly attention to detail. And handling of paperwork.

I told them sincerely that I've never been happier on the job then I am now.
My only regret is that I didn't make a change in company long ago.

Woodys, REO6205 and Socal Xpress Thank this.

Funny how that works isn't it? Can't remember the last time I've actually had someone call my previous boss.

I recently quit a fleet in a game after about 4 years tenure in the top commanding rank.

If no one follows your recommendation in game, you command nothing. All you are doing is making noise and herding cats while being super annoying to those underlinks who do not regard you as a leader at all. It's disgusting. (Social media has a bit part in that problem, literally "Discord" which is a third party type chat or communications program. The armada leadership decided to deploy Discord and take all communications off game. I quit on principle. Moved to a better fleet that keeps all comms in game and I hold top rank with the people who matter. And fly with those into battle who do well.

A bad boss is literally a problem you do not need in life. A really bad boss has lost me many times, which is one reason I have a messy work history leaving one bad boss for a better one down the road on principle.

I remember one in particular. She swelled up like a annoyed parrot and started telling me about how she is vested by the Federal Government to authorize a 16 hour log book exemption on difficult workdays supporting Red Lobster out of the Darden Aberdeen Maryland Location. The moment she spouted that BS, was the very moment that I started looking for another employer or return to FFE who had leased me and my tractor to that work place so returning to FFE was a matter of two satellite messages. One to quit Darden and another to inform ST that I was back in business with the tractor, find a trailer for me loaded or empty and get things going again.

The reason is that the 16 hour exemption is legal for logging, but only if your normal workday of 14 hours was destroyed by something NOT in your control. And that is maybe a once every two years occurrence with my experience.

And I really hate stupid people who think some how I am a moron or imbecile to be talked down to (Actually yelled at...) as if I was a flat idiot who knows nothing about DOT regulations regarding something I have to do 24/7 for decades in a big rig just so that she can command and snap her fingers and make that extra work happen that night somewhere where it's not normal to put in that extra delivery.

It's been almost 25 years since that harpy shrieked at me in her imagined authority in that ####ty office. Im still angry over it.

You think I ought to attend anger management classes or something like that. Im so over it. =)

Tell her you are authorized by your wife to get an extra $500 for additional hours.
