Even back when we had 48' trailers or shorter you did not have the overhang of those 53' trailers. Many of these sites appear to have a standard that doesn't fit today's extended length trailer. Like putting a 7" round peg in a 5" hole.

It's not just the old ones. The brand new one in Wilmington, IL has a ton of blind side parking. As does the one in West Columbia, SC. Neither one of them could be much more than a year old.
It comes down to the fact that the lots are planned out by clueless non-drivers who don't give any thought to the fact that it might be much more difficult to back up to the right in a large vehicle than the left because you can't see on the right. They'll then scratch their heads when there are so many more accidents in the blind side rows, never making the connection. Utterly clueless.Cattleman84 and Studebaker Hawk Thank this. -

The retrofitted rest areas on I-95 in CT had a sort of knock-off Idle Aire for about a minute.
They were all blindside slots and the boxes got beat to #### within about 6 months.
But yeah, billion dollar multi-year renovation project and nobody bothered to think about what would work for trucks.
