“But officer it clearly states on my license I can speed”
“Where”
“Right here at the bottom.......tear along dotted line”
I'd love to see this defense in a speeding ticket case.

There is some truth to what they say. Common law was eventually replaced with "statute" law with Erie vs Tompkins beginning in 1938. The Uniform Commercial Code started to materialize 4 years later.

I hate to break the news to the op, while that sounds like a good fantasy, the use of electric speedometers have been covered in the regulations of the us dot and is an accepted form of indicator of speed. It is not like a hand held device or an eld but rather part of the vehicle when it was made.

My GPS speed never after a with a speedometer. Close once. 1 mph off.

??
The gps receiver is only accurate to a certain limit. The speedometer is allowed to have I think 3 or 5% latitude. -
Hold on, did Scottie admit to breaking the law! Did you get that on film?

While you're correct about that, the counterpoint is that many local politicians are writing and passing very loosely worded laws regarding "electronic devices." They have passed just limiting it to "phone" or "texting", and are now writing very broadly defined "electronic devices" which would be fun to argue would include a speedometer.

All of the regs I've seen state "handheld (or portable) electronics device"
