    Hey guys not sure if this would be the correct form to use. But I have a couple questions currently live in Tampa Florida I do not have my CDL but I do have my DOT physical and my permit Class A.
    I have called a couple companies and it seems that nobody is really hiring South of Orlando. I was wondering if anybody knew or had a list of companies that you hire South of Orlando.

    I am prior military US Army active duty 88 Mike and I have 100% of my post 9/11 bill I currently live close to Roadmaster but I've heard some mixed reviews about about their school as they don't get a lot of drive time. I also have been looking at some company sponsored training or OJT Apprenticeship Training with my 911 Bill but I'm not too sure which road to take and which one would benefit me the most.
    I do have company I have been in contact with that's re West but I didn't have a Tennessee License to to be able to go to their school as my license is still in Florida. On their website it states that you must have a Tennessee License to attend the schooling provided by them but the recruiter over the phone just tell me I don't need it. and I can start with the permit out of Florida I'm not to sure on what to believe. Or it that's true or I'm being misled. I am a single father who would basically have to move everything up to Tennessee including my grandma AKA babysitter should be able to start. I'm having to spend a lot of money to do all this on my own plus and move to another state in hopes I make it through training or or something does not go wrong. And I'm stuck with no money in a differential state scratching my head.
    As I said I was a truck driver in the Army M915 so I have 5 years of tractor trailer driving Experience. I read so much information the last month or two I'm just not sure which way to go or turn.

    My end goal and all of this is to be local or Regional driving in the southeast as I Emma single father to be able to get as much home time as I can but still stay out long enough to Turn and Burn and make some money I'm not looking to get rich but I'm looking to be able to pay my bills and provide a roof over my head and provide for my child.

    Thank you guys for reading this and I was kind of on I look forward to hearing your advise thank you.

    He is correct you could attend training here.

    Big undertaking to move everyone and have a new job.

    I always recommend folks get their license themselves.

    HCC - Plant City Campus - Hillsborough Community College - HCC

    That is Hillsboro Community College. At least as accredited as roadmaster and without the BS. On the company thing two things I will say is stay away from C R England, and do not lease with anyone for at least two full years of driving.

    Yeah yeah I saw the local regional comment. Fleece operations promise all kinds of crap to get you to sign.

    Sage has a 160hr school at Hillsborough CC in Plant City for $5100ish. Pinellas Tech in St. Petersburg is 360hr for $ 3200ish. I’m going to go to Pinellas Tech in August/Sept. Think you will get around 1000 miles driving at Ptech. I think 44 hrs of solo driving with instructor at Sage. I think Sage starts a new class every Monday. They are my second choice. Sage is about 6 weeks long where Ptech will take about 12.

    Talk to soda, beer, and food distributors about what you are looking for. Also, LTl companies. Some have training, you don't have to move, and home every day... better for raising the the child.

    I read the title "Lost on which way to turn" and I thought to myself, My God Swift drivers are now resorting to threads in trucking forums for driving directions.

    Several companies hire in Florida and also South of Orlando all the way down to Miami.
    I'd go to a private cdl school or community college cdl school or tech cdl school.
    Roadmaster is ok, but way too expensive.
    Here's companies that hire new graduates & students in Florida & South Florida.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Freymiller - www.drive4freymiller.com
    Contract Freighters - www.cfidrive.com
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    MCT Transportation
    Sanford
    2901 West Airport Blvd
    Sanford, FL 32771
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    CTL Transportation - tankers
    Tampa
    5619 E. Columbus Drive
    Tampa, Florida 33619
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Titan Transfer - good company, but their cdl school doesn't provide lodging. There's a motel across the street that charges $38.00 per day. They hire in Florida, so you won't have to move.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Florida Beauty Express - Miami
    Teams to California every week. Good paychecks and you can take as much time off between runs as you want without fear of losing your job.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Cypress Truck Lines - cdl school in Jacksonville,FL
    Mostly stay in Southeast & Texas from what their drivers post.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    FFE (Frozen Food Express)
    Terminals all over the USA and one in Winterhaven & Miami.
    Knight and Swift both hire south of Orlando. Knight hires CDL permit holders and puts them through training and the test. Pretty sure you have to work off the tuition, but of all the companies doing the same Knight seems to be the better choice. KLLM also offered me a job, but I think they push leases so i would try other places first.
    Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. Paying for any of the schools is not a issue as I said I have my education benefits.
    I will def. Look into the HCC option. And some private school as well.
