So I was getting a new policy because my agent hated my old insurer. I filled out the papers and it asked me about passengers. I answered yea my wife from time to time and my brother when I hire to help me to do a job or two.
Under my old policy it was ok but when my agent went to 6 different insurers they denied me. They would or do not sell a passenger policy. They also would not accept me if got a secondary insurance that covers it.
My agent was a little shocked about it because she never had this problem before.
Apparently she was told Iowa is changing the law on passengers policy. Something along the lines of not allowing coverage for passenger any longer. She said something about Pepsi had accident with passengers. They had passenger policy but it was not enough. I don't know if main insurance covered the rest or not.
Anyways Iowa decided to something about it.
Anyone know something about this?
No more passengers for Iowa?

I went to work for Ryder as a company driver and they had zero ability to have any passengers. Even giving another Ryder employee a ride required special permission. But when I was a owner operator leased to Landstar they also got really picky about ridership policies even though I bought my own insurance. Its about time we all realize insurance companies dictate to trucking companies what they do. From speed limiters, to safety equipment and who they hire.

landstar is still a little sticky ... 18 and over and after a year with company and no tickets or accidents children and grandchildren 12 and over during the summer

When I take a passenger. That passenger prior to touching my Semi signs one form page paper.
Essentially ANYTHING that happens to THAT person in MY right seat up to including, maiming, injury, DEATH and other things bad is STRICTLY that person's problem. The company REFUSES to provide ANY protection, insurance or any of that for said passenger. Even if it is a wife.
In fact in my time FFE had a rule that I never have anyone inside that truck without signing that one form with that person before the act. if I was ever caught with anyone inside that tractor, I would have been fired instantly. They actually asked my spouse prior to sending her to orientation in person, has she ever been inside my tractor for years prior to coming here? She said no and that was truth.
When she became a co driver team with me, as a full driver and not a passenger, things got better. So if anything happened to her or me such as dying. It's pay 400,000 to the widow(Er) and there was a few times that was a real possibility.
Ive helped people in the past years ago when they really needed it. Those kinds of things would have been quite a mess if something did happen.
