I have an option to finance a 13 kenworth t660 with a paccar or a 13 Peterbilt 587 With Cummings isx both 10 speeds with similar mileage 500k range. Both come with freedom warranty - 12 month/100k on rears, Engine, turbo, injectors, trans etc. so my question would be which is a better long term option. I normally would say Cummings but the soot issues I have with my 09 international with Cummings make me feel like Cummings isn’t what I once thought it was before owning one even thou it’s one of the best engines on the market today. And I have heard horror stories on paccars but I see them at dealerships so much with 300-500k miles so someone has been brave enough to drive them and make money I’m just saying I don’t know have they made changes to paccar engines in that 2013 year range? So which is a better purchase ?

    Neither.

    Why?

Because all of that doesn't matter until you get the trucks tested and checked.

However I lean towards taking the Cummins, but that's me, and it would be dependent on what the dyno and all the other Due Diligence points to.

I have great luck with two engine manufacturers and stick to them. Cummins in the drive, Cummins in the RV and Cummins in the fleet.

So I should dyno and oil sample both even thou it’s at a Peterbilt dealership? Will they pay for that or I’ll have to pay?

Be aware of the base weight 587 is a heavy truck, mine isx Cummins/13 speed is 20,700 bobtail full of fuel.

I put an egr valve on mine at 706k miles, I got printout of everything done to truck from company I got it from, it’s a 13 model, other then egr and ac compresser/freeze switch no problems, but no two trucks are exactly the same

There is so much info out there about the ISX on how to make it batter & last longer.
Don't know anything about the Paccar, that may be good or maybe bad, dunno.
I would stick with the mainstream and go with the ISX.

    Most definitely.

I have a relationship with three medium dealers and I've bought use trucks from them however I never take their word on anything, I just don't trust them to be truthful or accurate because one missed item, and it costs me a lot of money.

Always verify the condition of the truck, it may save you later on.

Just because it has a warranty does not mean that it will be used if the engine has a problem outside the items that they cover and more importantly it doesn't cover downtime, so you want to make sure that the truck won't break down because something they didn't tell you.

Get a red one. Manufacturer is unimportant.
