I drove for FFE/KLLM for about two years from 2012 to 2014. I was a lease purchase operator and a trainer. I am looking to come back to trucking, and I know I would like to do what I was doing before. Does anyone know how trainers are paid at Swift? For example, at FFE/KLLM, trainers were paid all of the miles driven, even if the student was driving. I would like to find a company that does the same thing, or close to it.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide.

    Smut Thanks this.

When I was a trainer at Swift that was how it was paid. Your miles plus what the student drove. That was over a year ago but I'm sure it's still the same.

They just updated mentor pay. You still get all of the students miles but you also get per week bonus of I think $100 for every week you train (might be $150). Plus you also get a bonus based on the students rank once they get their own truck. It’s something like $1000 for platinum, $500 for gold, $250 for silver etc.. This is paid 60 or 90 days after they get their own truck and are ranked.

Bottom line is you make more as a mentor today than you did a couple months ago.

Thank you for all of the information. I think I am going to go to the ocean container division (unless someone warns me not to), but I need to get an address in California and a CA CDL, too. I live in NV now, but my plan was to always make CA my home state, so now's the time. I will also get my double/triple, tanker, hazmat, and TWIC while I'm at it.

I am in California and that division must sucked because I don’t see much of ocean containers. I sometimes see Knight trucks hauling ocean containers and that’s about it.

Knight spams Craigslist constantly looking for drivers to pull ocean cans.

I scan local Craigslist all the time and I don’t see Knight doing it recently. Swift spams for intermodal driving jobs and when you call for it, that position mysteriously disappears and they make you to do OTR.

Why would anyone want to make CA their home state.

I was born and raised there, and it is the most messed up state in the union.

It’s a free country, but I think I’d probably renounce citizenship before that decision too . . .
