I hope the Continental Drives HDL 2DL are as good. Got a set of 8 coming in a week. $418 a tire. I didn't think that was too bad for premium drives.

Continental HSR2 or the General RA tire are both excellent for spread axle. They have a more rigid compound for the sidewall and 23/32 tread depth. Both are all position tires, but work best on the spread axle. I have new ones on my trailer and they are wearing well. Other drivers that recommended them have seen a life of three years or more on these tires.

I've ran spread axel for years. Tried a few that worked and then they were discontinued. Last i used a Michelin x line energy, we got 120k miles. Trailer has PSI which saved couple of tires. Its the one that just inflates, but does not take air out to maintain a consistant 110 PSI.

To get a true result when trying new tires, i usually go with the full set. It makes it easier to rotate n maintain a consistant tread wear. Its a gamble, bcuz if they are junk. U throw all that money away.

So, the second time around we went with double coin high tread. I got bout 125k miles. Same rotation, bout every 30-50k miles or as needed. They wore off a bit odd n Les Schwab said it was my aplication. We traded them in at 4-7 32s, so it was not bad. Considering the price over a michelin. Les Schwab recommended shallow thread double coin. Got 8 n ran them. Bout 120k out of them.

Most recently, we got a new trailer that came with double coin high tread. This trailer does not have PSI. We went w a simple HD cat eye tire equalization. We got it for the sake of inflating one pivot instead of 2. I check air pressure once a week. The inside tire is alwas a pain to inglate. We got bout 150k miles out of this last set.

Then i was told bout the michelin xze2 . We only purchased 4 for the front axel. The driver side rear axel we install the last recap we had laying around and a kelly steer tire, but not the high scrub one.
One the rear passenger side we have 2 michelin x line energy. The store did not have 8 of the michelin xze2 ( usually put on local delivery trucks that turn all day. I will have an update as soon as i see where these new tires go.

I still stand by Bridgstone ST230. Middle ground in price range,.. but longest lasting with even tire wear for the entire life span.

I do not run recaps anywhere on a 18 wheeler. Generally the fleets that Ive run spreads for did not either.

We had a dump valve on our Ravens back in the 90's which helped alot. For what it's worth the original set given with the trailer I was issued for that year stayed on the whole time. Nothing was done to them except to check air pressure in range now and then. By winter the tractor got a whole new set on all 10 positions which is normal for me. And they still had life in them to serve as spares or on other trailers.

Supermax HF1. Best spread axle tire I’ve used. I was wary about them but if I can find them that’s all I will buy. I use name brand steer and drives.
