Pros and Cons of Driving Reefer??

There you go anything pharma related is 99% of time a nice gig.

 

And it will be until around 2045 as this current generation ages. Freighting this stuff is big business. Even if you had a van and deliver to a few pharmacies directly, you can do a good living. If I was to start over at 21 into trucking (Which wont happen, but pretending) I would have done nothing but medicine. It's a seriously good situation to be in. Other than bulk.

 

That’s what we do only pharma both ways, hospitals clinics manufacturers dist center name it...our freight is 99% pharma once in a blue moon we do general freight and when we do it our drivers bit....& whine.

Personally i wouldn’t do anything else, have been at it since 7 years and have no interest in going back to general freight.

 

Once in a while the outfit in Little Rock would have me run a load of Apples to NW Atlanta Safeway distribution. It was something of a nice change of scenery and a way of taking time off for two to three days. No whining on my part with the exception of the famous apple lady at 7:04 am saying "WHAR MY APPLE TRUCK!?"

The only bad thing about Pharma is that in my time we were not licensed carry and had to be prey mindset. I tell you something, if there is anything in that trailer those predators in Memphis would want, that would be it. I won't be doing that again without having something good in the holster this time around.

 

Security is always a concern no doubt meanwhile people’s know what we are doing buy who can tell which products is being handled at what time....some loads are being treated differently such as no stop first 250 miles etc etc many times there’s an unmarked car following etc etc etc

 

reefer is good if you like sitting around waiting. .. and waiting ... to wait some more ..... seems to be taken over somewhat by the mega carriers which makes sense because reefer rates are higher and they make more and they are not the ones waiting

 

I agree with everything that has been said so far. I’ll add that sometimes you will deliver to local stores in the middle of the street or a restaurant. Because they want 1 pallet of that beef, or egg or whatever it is your hauling.

Reefer breakdown is a *****. Not many road services for Reefer out there. If they do, it will take them HOURS to reach to you.

Bakeries are 50/50 okay to back into. Or half of the time it’s a 90 blindside.

Lastly, the overweight problems on the drive tires. I drive a Pete 379. I gotta fight or threaten the shipper every time. I make sure to not put 2 heavy pallets in the front, but only 1.

 

I thought we were supposed to be scaring off drivers from #reeferlife so we could have the gravy all to ourselves....

Or risk load being a claim. Or waiting for a day to load, or unload, and there still may be claims, and fee charges.
