Walmart Doubles Spending in Battle for Truckers
But Walmart’s turnover has risen slightly in recent months, Rosser said, amid cutthroat competition for drivers. Some carriers have boosted wages as many as three times over the past year and are handing out signing bonuses of as much as $10,000. The average age of a Walmart driver is 55, so the company also is losing many to retirement. Over the next decade, the trucking industry will need to hire approximately 898,000 new drivers, or an average of nearly 90,000 per year.

Nobody wants a head up their butt when driving.. Get a clue. Spend all you want, it won't help.

I am picking up on some of the walmart drivers coming and going from several stores and the DC complex near us in Searcy.
I have a feeling you can pay a million a week and still not have the quality drivers for walmart that will stay there and endure the ever increasing amounts of draconian hoops to jump across just to be able to keep the job.
I hate to be difficult, but the industry has changed and frankly I would be happy running a farm to coop under Tier Two in my state for a few hundred dollars and complete peace of mind from the big corporate make work or... frivolous BS day and night.
Call me old. But I aint that dead yet.shogun, Western flyer, Dave_in_AZ and 3 others Thank this. -
Well they had almost no turnover, and when a opening did come open a plethora of drivers flooding them with apps, for maybe 2-3 positions at only one of the approx 62 distribution centers that had domicile private fleet drivers
Fast forward to hiring of "Supply chain Specialist" who came in with brilliant new ideas of taking away perks that senior drivers had earned, cutting programs, doing away with set runs, FLW, home daily/nightly day cab runs, cutting weekends off, slip seating to maximize tractor utilization, launching a new system that was never fully tested and proven which crashes and shuts down cutting productivity, thus costing drivers $$$ because of increased downtime, fiddling around waiting, and chasing backhauls, while ignoring focusing on servicing the stores like Sam originally wanted. Let alone broadcast messages constantly telling private fleet drivers how expensive they are. And instituting the 38 special policy.
This started the mass Exodus of drivers. Some of us stuck it out through the initial change, decided to give it a try and see how things went. PTO instead of old system with vacation, sick days, holidays became a mess. Almost impossible to get time off approved, no more paid holidays, must work them/ stand around waiting cuz warehouse called off no loads ready etc....
Fast forward to today, is it any wonder that the private fleet is down roughly 2k+ drivers and any given day the website is listing openings at 50+ distribution centers.
Now you know the rest of the story, Good Day.Mike2633, blairandgretchen, 28 and 11 others Thank this. -
When I moved a few months ago I applied to wal mart in red bluff.. after reading massive horrible reviews I didn’t answer their call, they called 5 times and left 5 voicemails.. sounded pretty desperate

Biggest no no for me was slip seating and cameras

I see what you did there.
Honestly, I can't see where someone could be trained to be attracted to someone of the same gender. It's got to be something you're born with. Same as being born with no hands, or no feet. You just can't help it.joshuapowell61 Thanks this. -
Soon all Wally drivers will be assimilated into Swift & Western Express.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
