You will smell it only for a few seconds, then you won't smell anything. It's heavier than air, so get upwind, across wind, and/or uphill as quickly as possible without exerting yourself.
Any rig or fracking site with potential H2S releases have signs posted when you enter the site. Every site has flags or wind socks. Pay attention to them.
Every site will have muster areas posted. Pay attention to them, especially as they relate to being upwind or side wind.
Clip your H2S monitor below your nose and mouth, NOT on the brim of your hard hat. Remember, it's heavier than air, so by the time the monitor detects it at the top of your skull it can be too late.
Don't mess around with this stuff.austinmike, DevJohnson and stwik Thank this. -
Okay so since it’s heavier like you said if it’s around my neck it’ll catch it first so then I have time to haul ### back where I came from.. since there could be a possibility of no windaustinmike and Lepton1 Thank this.

That's the idea. You want that monitor in a position to give you time to react.
Another thing about H2S monitors, once they are activated and calibrated they are good for 24 months. You have to buy a new one every two years at about $120 a pop.
Cheap insurance in my book.
You CAN get a case that will put the monitor to sleep by not letting any air get to it. That will extend the usable life, BUT I haven't found a store that will stock the cases. -
almost all the guys i saw had em clipped to their hard hat. I clipped mines to my shirt pocket
Lepton1 and DevJohnson Thank this. -

Your sense of smell is shut down so you think it is gone but you are still inhaling the gas...
-
Wow, that's not bad. In my day they were in the $500 dollar range.Lepton1 Thanks this.
