They still have some manuals, but they're being phased out. Majority of the fleet is auto-shift, automatic, or whatever you want to call it. New cascadias are nice. Little slow on take off, but ehh whatever. I don't mind them. Don't listen to these other folks, just a bunch of old guys stuck in their old ways that blame everything on our generation when their generation raised us

My generation didn't raise you, I would not ever hire anybody who can't or wont drive a manual, it's not that difficult and if they can't be bothered to shift gears then what else can't they be bothered to do?

Never said I can't drive a manual. But I don't have a problem with a automatic... except backing up can be a pain at times since it likes to engage the clutch when you don't want it to. Company pays me, I'll drive what ever they put me in as long as it's road Worthy. Whether it be a 567 heritage or a faded pink reddish Columbia. Transmission option doesn't make me anymore money.

It's middle aged people buying the autos because they can't be bothered to listen. The people you are crapping on have no say in what trucks get purchased.

Your generation literally makes the decisions and then attacks others who had no say in the matter.

This is a perfect example of why millennials have no respect for people older than them.

I am a millenial myself, like I said I didn't raise anybody. If I can figure out how to drive a manual anybody else can too. I also wouldn't hire anybody to drive a truck who makes a big deal out of their four degree in anything.

A fleet goes to automatic. Big deal. It makes no difference to me what the tranny is. I can do either. I have done both, and either truck can do the job. Most drivers want to fit the bill of what a trucker prototype is, and that's why they crap on automatics. They get the job done. After all, the purpose of this line of work isn't move loads from point A to point B. Don't see why it's a big deal about trannies or the type of trucks they have.

I think that you are probably right. Before long all major carriers will have nothing but automatics. Since most small fleets buy many of the trucks the big carriers trade in - it won't take but a few more years before most of the smaller fleets are also full automatics too.

While I personally prefer a super 10, I have gotten used to automatics and don't really mind them at all. In heavy traffic, they are actually very nice to have. The biggest issue is for you if you own the truck (or the fleet) when you get the repair/replacement bill on an automatic vs a regular 10 or super 10.
