I live 40 or so miles away. Stay away. I have been with a friend to look at one. Im not impressed. Chrome and wheel shined. I even talked to them, went in the shop. They try to not do any repairs. Shine them and flip. They do not even detail the interior. Then out on the lot at a huge mark up. They can not keep help, allways advertising.

Thank you all for the input. There are so many questions when we reach the point of wanting to earn better than most company driver positions can offer. The options when purchasing a truck seem to go on and on. The specs on trucks range drastically, the age of the truck, the mileage and then the ultimate question new or used.
Someone mentioned its a give or take situation, form and function. The older truck might have a nice paint job and some chrome but be garbage under the hood or the truck looks rough but runs like a champ. It's hard to tell, especially from a website. Then you step it up and go to a national sales brand to check their offerings. Its almost the same form/function debate but with higher stakes.

Has anyone bought a used truck from Schneider? I had about four trucks when I was there. They ranged from completely filthy piece of s*** to brand new. I'm not sure what would be expected from their resale division.

Landstar a good start. I work at Classic Carriers as o/o i pull their trl run under their DOT book my own freight . I give them 30% or you can rent your own trl reefer or dry for 80% i believe. Theyre in Versailles Ohio. I avg 2800 3500 take home had 5 weeks this year over 4000 take home. 2weeks over 5000. I dont think that bad for 70 of gross. I drive a long wheelbase freightliner 23500 lb tractor 43500 lb load all i can do. I do recommend an apu. It save me 300 wk in fuel . New apu in Delphos OH cost me 11000 it will pay for itself in a yr imo. Classic Carriers Versailles Ohio

Where do you book your own freight from (contract or load boards)?

Load boards mostly DAT . If i wanna set up a deal i can do that to cost you 30% whichever way you go. Its up to you how much you make that simple you have 100% control of your income potentional . Minus 30%

Wow. That's incredible. Not trying to be disrespectful but 30 percent highway robbery. You're getting screwed.

I dont believe so. Im avg 3 plus take home . Fuel discounts discount shop tire discounts. Some accts are drop hook i get a broker load to those accts i drop hook stay moving. Safety bonus every qtr 400 bucks easy money. Best part i usually avg less than 2500 mi wk. Last week i turned in 2376mi took home 3733.00. I get paid every week.i Pull same trailer for weeks when maint due i drop it in yard get another. The fuel discount alone saves me alot of money . Looking at the rates last cpl months i would have work harder to pay my bills with my own authority. I personally dont think a 1 truck authority is very profitable.

Well it depends on situation. I had a good gig starting out. 75% or 85% local, 85% my customer period. I was responsible for License plate, 2290, bobtail. Their trailer, tolls. No trailer rent. I had a check every 10 or 11 days! Didnt matter if it was a slow paying customer. It was good enough that I was not looking to get my authority. But all things change, the only thing guaranteed in trucking is change. They asked me to stop doing work for a customer of ours, that paid invoices weekly. That was are last day. It was a customer of my dads for 30 years and I went with the customer not the carrier. Its hard to support a small operation just on open load board and bank roll it. But when you find it you will know. If you dont like doing invoices and paperwork I would lease on. If not, get your authority. I have my authority, but never know when I could switch back. Im here to profit not be prideful. One tip, when ever would say I workered for ##### and Sons, I would politely show them that my name on the door was bigger than the leased to name! Font wise. And tell them because I own the truck I do call the shots!
