Little project today. Didn't take long. You can see how the old seals was completely cracked and worn. 20181124_132510.jpg 20181124_145544.jpg 20181124_140016.jpg 20181124_144005.jpg

Do you know if theres only 1 pinion seal or is there more? Notice all that caked on grease? That's on the 1st drive axle... WOndering if that's just from dripping off the 5th wheel? Second drive axle is clean and I believe the 2nd is where the pinion is right or wrong?

There is a seal behind each one of the yokes where they bolt to the rear ends, and one behind the yoke on back of the transmission.

Looks like that one is leaking, or has leaked in the past. Before I tore into it or had someone replace it I would wash that up good and get all the dirt/grit off there. Then you can watch it and see if it is still leaking, or where it is coming from.

Highway Sailor, thaistick and JonJon78 Thank this.

All of them are called pinion seals or they use different names?

I'm far from a mechanic, but I concur. And the way the dirt has got on it, I'd definitely say it is or has leaked and that isn't grease from the 5th wheel for sure.

I pay $45 a month for Hulu and it replaced my direct TV. Live TV and everything. Best deal I've ever done for tv.

I'd post this on Rawze's site and see what they say. Them guys really know these Cummins engines. I know short runs don't hurt these motors.
