I think people over state the pay. You can only drive about 110,000-120,000 miles a year. So if you pay is $0.32 x 115,000 miles you make $36,800. Running team for the money is really hard. The truck has to run 22 hours a day.
I'm just saying drive all day every day is why lots of people quit I think. Plus the low pay and not being home. Maybe I should say the pay is not what everyone thinks it is for the work.
I still think if someone really wants to drive a truck going for the free training is good. Because they basically pay for everything and you get a job at the end. It's true they pay less. So you basically are working for less to get that free training. You can't quit unless you pay the money back or finish working for them.
If you pay for training you have more options were you work and pay, but not everyone will take a new driver without any experience, because of the insurance risk of a traffic accident. Most trucking schools only teach you how to pass the test when you paying them. That how they make more money by getting new drivers a CDL. Their is no standard in USA for training every state is different. So they only teach to pass the CDL test.CJ701 and bryan21384 Thank this. -

I went to a school first. My state has a program where they pay for school because trucking is a high demand industry. They also offered to help with food and stuff too while I went. Then you can choose a company carefully, and not be a slave to them. If the company pays for school, they kind of own you until you are done paying them back. The local community college also has classes and could help you get a grant. You can ask the local schools, and I suggest you look at 3 or 4 of them before you decide, but they can point you to funding sources to help you. And if you pay for school out of pocket, some companies offer a bonus to help you pay off any loans you took. If a company offers a huge signing bonus, they usually pay that a little at a time, over time. I worry when they offer a huge bonus like that because they feel they have to pay that to get drivers- it seems desperate. So take some time to look at schools and which companies to apply to. Research a lot.

I was looking into Schneider. They have a recruitment nearby next week. Does anyone recommend this company? And do truck driver also learn how to load and secure the freight?
I also wondering about my car license. I have my car license since 2009 but when I moved to California in September 2018 i had to do a new one. Is that a problem because i read some company want an active driver license for 3 years.Last edited: Dec 3, 2018
