It's an unfortunate situation. But I'm not miserable. I'm in a Best Western hotel. It's not the cheapest hotel in the area. There is a nice variety of places to eat, and a Safeway grocery store. I get breakdown pay and Magnum pays for the hotel. Sure it sucks, but I feel I'm being adequately accommodated. I can see it being real difficult if I was struggling financially, but that's all in good order, fortunately. Also it would probably be worse if I was alone, but I've got my wife with me.

It's not my preference to be here, but I don't feel anyone owes me anything more than I have. The shop updates me every morning once a day and I keep my DM updated. Nobody is all over me making me do anything. I'm happy with how the situation is being handled.

Breakdowns happen, it's just part of the game. Glad you're in a good spot, I've been stuck in the middle of nowhere before. Hang in there and they'll get you running again or bring you back and put you in something else. Meantime, enjoy the hot tub.

Looks like it's going to be a tough go over the weekend with a major ice/snow storm for the south. Take care, stay safe and be ready. You know how the south treats wintry prrcip...God put it there, God will take it away.

You definitely have a better OTR mindset than I did. If I was sitting and not making money, I wasnt happy because that was the reason to be out there. Different strokes for different folks.

This hits against the train of thought that if you want to become an owner operator, you can spend more money to buy a “nicer, newer” truck so you have less risk of maintenance costs and breakdowns. If I bought a brand new truck and then 3 months later I had to spend over $1,000 on a hotel room and be off the road this long (and have to cover my load) I’d be beyond ticked off! Lol luckily, the tow and repairs are covered by warranty.

Your bad day is coming too, Ray. Broke down and/or stuck overnight in a day cab during a winter storm is no fun at all. Pack survival gear. Stuff happens.

    WesternPlains and Zata40 Thank this.
