The intentions of the rule is clear. If he advances his position for the purpose of performing work in his "commercial vehicle " he is supposed to log on duty driving. There is the rule & then the intentions of the rule.
The grey area would be in the enforcement. But even a muppet enforcement person knows that you ain't gonna drive that distance just to eat lunch. Though there is no distance limitation, the rule is a clear on the practicality for using PC & in not advancing your position to perform work.

To be in compliance he would have to log from his delivery point where he started his PC to the yard or from his house to the yard. As long as his home is not the shorter of the two distances .

Technically the use of PC is a round trip proposition. To a point & then back. This is why it is important for me as a local driver to stay within 100 air miles of my yard at all times. So I don't have to deal with this log crap. All I have to do is stay under 12hrs & 60hrs

The pc rule has changed. You can pull your wagon now and, no, you don’t have to return to where you started.

Paid from the house to pickup...I say yes. I've always gotten pay from my house to where ever for pickup.

Paid from last delivery to house....nope. Why should you be paid to drive home?

I’ll bet somewhere in the fineprint in the op’s employment handbook, it says all dispatched miles are paid, which as you said, would be yard to customer to customer to yard etc.

I did have a home daily job once where i took the truck home, and was paid hourly for the whole time i was in the truck. I have a feeling that was a pretty rare deal. (By the way, I made sure I was getting paid for everything before I took the job).

The OP's carrier is bending over backwards for him by letting him take that truck home on their dime, before I moved closer to my job the 12 truck carrier that I work for made it clear on day 1 that no one would be taking trucks home and I only lived 35 miles away at the time. You really should be grateful OP because like someone else said, somebody in the office is going to notice YOUR truck is running a lot of deadhead miles and before you know it you'll most likely be out of a job because I cant see someone driving 135 miles one way for a driving job of any kind.

    Hmmm what to say here.

My company paid over $100 a day in fuel to provide my transportation to and from work. And I’m pissed off about it.

Yup, that fits pretty good here. I’ll go with that.

In terms of otr pay, 2500 miles equates to $1000. This is one thousand dollars that they are keeping from you.
And of course they are letting you take their equipment home. How else are you going to haul their freight?
With the billions these box stores make, it's inexcusable for them to treat you like this.
About the only comfort is knowing these types of predatory employers are going have to give an accounting of their business practices before God on Judgment Day.
