I take it that I'm not the only driver averging 220 miles a day. last week I think I made more in shag and detention pay then millage.

I spoke to a NE regional driver a week or so ago,(I didn't know he was NE at first). When I mentioned the extra days of sitting I been doing because lack of freight, he looked at me puzzled and said he hadn't sat more than a few hours waiting on a load since he started...(a few months ago)That's when I found out he was NE. I guess that's one area of the country that will always have a need for drivers. I say we hire a bunch more, make the Allentown (Mc-whatever its called) bigger, then drop all our national freight that goes into the NE there and keep them busy. Problem solved, we don't run the NE, they keep busy...all are happy. Man this decision making and management thing is easy. All I need is a corner office with a view...Oh wait, if I want to be a manager with a corner office I'd have to move to Lincoln...never mind, not interested.
-
you already have a mobile "corner office" with a panoramic view, much nicer than a fixed location with the same view. you've demonstrated brilliant decision making skills, now please stop showing up the real management and get back to work.
cheers, gd -
You might want to trade places for a day and find out how easy(?) it is. LOL Also, if you ever have the opportunity to sit in dispatch at Lincoln you should do it. Actually everyone should if they can, it's an eye opening experience... No, I am not working on the inside at Crete, but have worked for other carriers in the past and believe me it's not a the piece of cake job that a lot of people thinks it is.

ET,
If you're in Jenks, you're about 5 miles from where I live. Where are you picking up at? I'm at the office today, but I'd love to swing by and meet the world famous EverYrucker if time permits. Either way, hope you enjoy your visit to Jenks America.
Andrew -
He'll be going to Kimberly-Clark.
-
Yup, at Kimberly-Clark. But I picked up my load yesterday (Tue) and am already in KY. Sorry I missed you Andrew, I'll keep you in mind the next time I'm up that way.
The week keeps getting better. After my Texas vacation last weekend and long haul run of 135mi on Monday I found myself sitting until the next day to pickup my Kim-Clrk load. It wasn't scheduled for PU until 2pm but I called the load info line at 7am to find out if it was ready. Good news, "yes it's loaded". Bad news, "we can't release it until noon".
So I sit for the remainder of the morning waiting for the magical hour so I can get to KY ASAP to deliver my drop load. This load is scheduled to deliver at a Wal-Mart DC anytime on the 12th (Thursday). What this generally(always) means is that I can drop it early. So it was my intention to have it here by midmorning and get to work on my next load in some attempt to salvage this week.
Well, after putting in the loaded call I sent off a message to update my PTA to reflect my day early delivery. Moments later I get a message that states early deliveries are not an option at this Wal-Mart and would result in a service failure for both Crete and myself. Love it, I can't deliver it at noon on Wednesday, but 12:01 am on Thursday is just fine. Yet another reason to praise Wal-Mart.
So here I sit in a truck stop 2 miles from my drop delivery after running 300 miles for the day waiting for the clock to give me the go ahead. But now I don't know when to deliver the dumb thing. If I go in at midnight and drop the trailer I won't get a load going out until later in the morning and the 14hrs clock is ticking ;->. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to get a load at that time plus I would certainly lose my parking spot at the truckstop which is already 100% full and it's only 2pm(which tells me what the prospects are for my next load in this area) but I'll be further up on the load list.
Option two is waiting until a more reasonable time, like maybe 5am. That way even if there are no loads I should be able to find a place to park but then that would put me further down on the load list and could make the difference between getting a load on that day as opposed to the following.
In an effort to avoid that conflict I sent a message off to dispatch asking for a preplan (fat chance of that in any circumstance) so that I could plan out my day tomorrow and be as productive as possible. The response only verified what I had suspected based on all the idle trucks sitting around here. "We still have trucks in the area without loads, you will have to find a place to park" which means my week of misery is destine to continue. All is not lost however, I mean, well, I already have 1135 miles this week. HELP!!!!!!
I put in for home time back in Phoenix out of frustration. At least I know that will get me some miles going that way and I can always count on a 2000 mile run go get me back to the east side of the country when I come out of the house.
Looks like I'm going to be able to knock out the rest of season one of LOST! -
Dont worry ET(makes me think of E.T. phone home, LOL), you have 100s of bros and sis's out here that share your frustration. I just sat 2.5 days and you have me beat by about 300 miles. Ill be lucky to see a 1500 mile week.
-
Is LOST worth watching? I keep hearing good things about it and then one woman told me it wasn't a good show..
I'm considering re-joining Netflix while I'm at home. I had cabin fever so I jumped on the truck last week. Though I must look goofy getting in and out of the truck very pregnant!
Kinda feeling clumsy I might add!
We will go home after delivery tomorrow which is another 20 mi away.... Put in 3320 miles so far. I'm ready to go home...being pregnant on the road isn't very easy. But it was fun! I noticed that we aren't running I-5 as much as of late.
