What you need to decide is what you want to do with your driving career, for example tanks Flats or box. When I first got my CDL I wanted to haul gas, You need 1 year experience to be a Gas Hauler so I went with a Tank Company that would hire me right out of school. Hope this helps
Fresh out of T.D.D.S. driving school...

Hey Ace I to graduated from TDDS back in Feb. I dont start with Roehl till March 30th. Check into their refrigerated trucks.

WOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO.......took my cdl test today and passed ......94% on my PTI........0 on manuevers........and 10 on my road test ........talked to my recruiter today and I start orientation at Roehl on April 27th..........Schneider also approved me since my last post. Should I go thru with Roehl 5 weeks out or should I consider something else in the mean time?...Been approved by Roehl,TMC,Trans Am,CRST,Scneider.....weighing the options here !! also how much do you trust recruiters?
-
Congratulations!!! I heard Schneider wasn't taking students, could be wrong, but better check a bit closer on that one. CRST is bad news, some bad ugly horror stories from that outfit. These days get a job and get your time in, remember..recruiter is just another word for LIAR. Those guys (and gals) are just in it to get you in the door, they mostly get paid by commission (#of applicants in =$$$$). Be careful, sounds like its a choice between Rhoel and TMC, also flatbed stuff isn't for us old farts to start a career, those tarps are heavy.
Good luck, be safe. -
New teams at CRST are paid peanuts.
Sounds like you are in the Y'town to Cleveland area. FCI (Freehold Cartage out of New Jersey) has a Cleveland terminal. I think they hire newbies. There CPM for new hires (experienced or fresh meat) looks pretty low, but the accessorial pay will get you to $50K without much trouble. Go into the tanker side if possible. Family owned and good people. Plus you don't need to park the truck at their terminal, take it home, or leave it at the nearest truckstop. -
I have decided to go to Roehl. From what I have read on here this is the best company to go with, since I am a newbie and all of the input I have got from all of you(thank you),am I making the right choice? I take my pre-physical tomorrow at 10:30 and I am suppose to start on April 27th, in Marshfield,Wi(seems like a long way out).Lets hope this friggen economy picks up.All the advice on Roehl's Evo's would be greatly appreciated.Be careful on your destiny's and will be in touch...thank you !!

Roehl recruiter just called and they moved my start date up to April 6th (3 weeks early) thats a good thing I guess? In Gary,In.Any input on Gary, Indiana orientation? Do most of the truckers here use the GPS? I heard that they are coming out with the trucking format of GPS this summer any one else hear this?
-
When I worked for them I did everything except the final road test at marshfield. That I did at Gary. Which Being a recent grad you will do your first road test there to see if Roehl will truelly hire you and then after you do your evo 1 and 2 you will do your second road test where ever your trainer drops you off.
They have had truck routing gps systems for a few years now just all depends how much you want to spend and what brand you want. I personally would not worry about a gps system until you get a couple of months under your belt doing your own routing. Just A sugestion but what I did was buy a pack of index cards and wrote down the routing that came aross the qualcom. then went to my laptop and cross referenced it with mircosofts streets and trips. Then called the shipper to triple check the directions into them that is if there is a phone number..lol. After that I would use the other side of the index card and repeat the process for the reciever and include any fuel stops. Then you can take the card clip it to the dash so it is easy to look at along your journey. No need to be second guessing yourself in rush hour chicago traffic. Once your done you can save the card for future referance. Another tip is when you call the shipper or reciever do not ask the person answering the phone for directions ask for there shipping n recieving department. Unless they are small and the person answering the phone is also the S n R department. The reason being is the person answering the phone will give you directions to where they are and that might be a half mile away from there S n R department. -
It finally paid off for me. I finished my EVO 2 and was dropped off at Marsfield,Wi, for my final driving test and written test and backing test.......And Yesssssss I finally got my own truck. Thanks to all the help from evryone. If you happen to see a Roehl truck number 3561 stop me I will be glad to buy the coffee an yes its the RED truck...hahaha ACE
