    Blame can go many directions.

And when I say newer driver that doesn’t automatically mean a “young driver “.
A good freind of mine still pushes a 1979 A model Kenworth that’s original for the most part, guess who tore my buddy’s hood off while he was asleep.....?? Yep, a newer driver!!! A newer driver that was 60 yrs old. I’ll be the first to say there are some fine drivers out here that are young.
And these guys playing “beat the clock” with these Elogs..... something else to consider in the mix? :) I don’t have all the answers, but after 30 some years I have a few thoughts :D.

Gotta disagree. That was completely avoidable. You said it yourself that can happen at anytime without warning, so to prevent playing pinball with your truck you prepare for those rapid change in conditions and allow that much extra following distance so when these things do happen you have the room to come to a controlled stop.

I remember using 17 on 5 in Washington and Oregon. California was always kind of a crap shoot on which channel to run, and in those days there was so much bs on the radio in Cali that you were tempted to just turn it off. This was a long time ago though, in the 80s.

Should be a rule where if you get in a accident on interstate you limp to nearest exit and then do the changing of insurance information. I have seen people standing outside of the vehicles in the road doing that. Crazy

The road surface likely had other plans. I'm assuming the driver of the camera truck saw the brake lights and tried to slow down but couldn't due to ice. There are situations where not even the best super trucker can avoid. This is probably one of them.

First, the driver should have slowed down a long time before the accident happened and in those conditions if I didn't feel safe I would have found a safe haven with food and access to facilities and pulled over, I can always get my DM to reschedule the delivery or pick up appointments, but losing my life, damaging the truck or product will be on my CSA score which can have an effect on future driving positions.

And that is precisely why we lurk in the shadows here — precious little nuggets of information like that.

It would be interesting to see another driver's dashcam going in the same direction, but with a CB, to hear if any, alerts from traffic going the other way.
