Self-driving computer can never be at 100% reliability, there always glitch in system or software. Period.
I remembered not too long ago when I used to live in the Grass Valley area and I did went out driving my truck to get some foods and coffee break at Natural Selection store on E main st. and I did saw the Google self-driving car keep circling at roundabout near to exit 49 hwy for some hours.
Here link old news in case if you haven't heard about it. Self-driving Google Car Gets Stuck in Grass Valley RoundaboutFarmerbob1 Thanks this. -
Trust me by the time that happens you won't want this job anymore. I think way before that happens the big carriers are going to cut freight cost and wages so much that the only people they'll be able to get to drive trucks at that point are going to be migrant farm workers. Somebody's going to have to tear down Trump's wall to get people desperate enough to sell their life away for peanuts. That plus all stupid regulations and mandates that seem to get just a little dumber each year.
Avoid the rush put in your application now to 7-Eleven or McDonald's.Last edited: Feb 26, 2019

Arguing with people about autonomous trucks and the future is like telling a old truck driver there is a cure for his erectile dysfunction. He'll still yell you at to get off his lawn.
Stubborn old men dont want solutions, they dont want change no matter how it brightens the future.Last edited: Feb 27, 2019

One day they will but if iv learned anything from the oilfield it's that I'd much rather stay on my sinking ship and see what happens.
The 2 times I quit oilfield jobs because I listened to everyone saying we are gonna be laid off any second now I regretted it because the guys that stayed ended up working even more hours (because everyone quit lol) and 6 months later got laid off with big checks in their pockets and unemployment.....
A few even got sent to other terminals and other positions and still work there to this dayFarmerbob1 Thanks this. -
Dead people aren't my idea of brightening the future. Autonomous trucks are a good way to kill people. Especially after terrorists learn how to control them remotely.
Even better will be when an autonomous truck going 60 MPH on the interstate gets hit by lightning, and all the electronics fail at once.
I am all for technological innovation that makes the world better/safer. Autonomous trucks will not fall into that category until they have their own separate roadways, and THAT will be an incredibly huge investment. -
Yup i agree

I agreed too. I personally don't believe autonomous truck have able to do evade direct hitting someone in vehicle in sudden multi-vehicles accident just like bellow video at 5:44 mark good example. Autonomous truck cannot react fast enough and making last second decide to avoid hit someone else still inside vehicle or outside with bad weather such ice on highway.
-
I will say this much. Autonomous vehicles CAN be programmed to stay within safety margins.
An autonomous truck can be programmed to never be an insane tailgater, or disallow weaving in and out of traffic like a 40-ton Nascar racer.
It can be programmed to pull over on the side of the road and shut down if it detects momentary loss of traction.
It cannot be programmed to respond to every situation, but it can be programmed to drive very conservatively.Blackshack46 Thanks this.
