I believe dptrucker is correct. As long as you're not advancing the load or trying to get closer to your next load, there shouldn't be a limit on PC.
So if you're empty and haven't received your next dispatch, why can't you go home?
Unless your company has a restriction on PC... -
Could always look up the regulations

My company has a 60 minute policy. You have to start stop at same place inside 60 so limits one-way travel to 30. That was when I started and never used it for home just runs to Walmart and such.

Agreed but how far is too far? If I lived in California could I drop a load in Florida and PC home with no HOS? Buy a case of energy drinks and drive 35 hours non stop?

The way I’ve read it, you can drive home as long as you’re unladen. Once home, after time off. Must log from home when returning to work. Nothing’s changed, that I know of. Company policies dictate though.Look it up its all there @ fmsca.gov

Being loaded has nothing to do with anymore after the latest revisionsdeathB4decaf and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I read about that, you’re allowed reasonable distance while loaded. I’m referring to an old practice of letting a driver deadhead home for time off. Believe it or not, my father used to go from Omaha to Chicago off duty with the Truck. Werner let him do that back in late 90s. He’d have to log on duty from home, when returning to work. I also asked my safety about it , agreed it’s legal. I’ve since read all the regs and it’s true. Hard to believe, but true.

That has changed. Fairly recently.
In any case FFE allowed us to take the whole rig home. I had enough land and gravel to store the whole thing if need be.
