53 looks like it may have some sort of truck restrictions on it between Tate and Gainesville.
20 is generally not a good option either, especially during the day. But it’s been a very long while since I ran across there. Maybe other local drivers can be of more help. -
I’ve ran 53 from jasper over to 85. It’s a skinny, curvy road out of jasper. I don’t know how much time you’ll save. Maybe @RedForeman has a suggestion.

GA-53 is a good road all the way across. It's been a while since I ran it west of Gainesville, but I am pretty sure there are no truck restrictions. A few hills so a bit slower if you're heavy, but nothing all that extreme. It's only a time saver when there's wrecks or heavy traffic taking the I-285 route. GA-20 is too congested even on a good day.

What Red said, and it takes just a little more than 1.5 hours to go from 75 to 985 in Gainesville on a good day 2 hours on a bad day. Not sure how long it take to go from 985 to 85 maybe another 0.5 hours.

No restrictions on 53.

I guess I need a new trucker atlas. Mine says it’s a highlighted STAA route for about halfway, then stops for some reason.
-
Eh run it at night. Like midnight to two am when Atlanta is too busy sleeping off those mint juleps.
-
I haven’t looked at an atlas I couldn’t tell you but I have put a many of miles across there and never seen anyone pulled over.
-
Will try 53 and avoid am traffic. Thanks
