I started doing this in 1980 and I can remember like it was yesterday the old farts talking about the "new breed driver" screwing up the industry.
They were talking about me and guys my age. I swore I would never be like that and I'm not. Now I hear guys that have been doing this 10-20 less than me talking about the "old days".
The drivers starting out right now will be talking the same crap ten years from now.
It's a constant cycle, like the seniors picking on the freshmen.
Wonder why older drivers are Bitter???

Anyone else notice the amount of foreigners driving nowadays. I can't understand half the crap they are saying. Can't drive, backing into everything, doing whatever they want on the roads giving us all a bad name. How can they get a CDL and not speak english? Just my 2 cents, I guess some lib's on here will blast me. But oh well.
-
They Pay an extra $50 & get an inspector who speaks their language. The entire test is not in English, same as the written tests. A school I went to had 4 Spanish speaking insrtuctors & one American. A lot of students could not understand written or spoken English. I guess you are aware English is not our official language. We officially have no official language. Look it up. There are groups fightingover that fact for ay years now.

I've learned a lot of spanish (intentionally) for the construction industry. It is still considered the second language of the US, not the first. It's been extremely helpful as far as favor is concerned. The legals we've used would much rather work for me than JoeNeckRed simply because I bothered to learn to speak it; and it avoids a lot of confusion when giving directions.
Unfortunately I only speak Jobsite and Restaurant spanish; I can't converse with a 5 yr old very well.
I thoroughly disagree with the idea of having special spanish teachers, hospitals, phone messages, and so forth just to pander those buttholes who come here and refuse to learn our language. If they want a little Mexico, let them stay in mexico. I've actually considered retiring in Mexico briefly, until I found out about it. There's nothing there for us. Except Senoritas.panhandlepat Thanks this. -
I started about two years before Mustang there (1978) and the guys were saying "new breed" even then. And it meant dopers, noobs, screwups and 'tards. I had some retired and active old trucker friends who talked me into taking my dump truck experience OTR in a rig.
Then about 1988 along came the CDL. Many dopers had to go, and a lot of very talented oldtimer drivers didn't pass the first version of the test, and quit. I had too many tickets and figured one more would shag my license, so I went into construction.
Nowadays it seems that with drug testing, at least we don't have so many befuddled drivers out there 2 feet off of someone's bumper thinking they're the hottest star of the silver ribbon. Or do we not? The dopers, noobs, screwups and 'tards still seem to be out here doing what they always did. Here in Atlanta's metro area, it's something EVERY DAY. -

Some of these new guys are just stupid myself i don't even drive the day i drive a rig ill be a professional not dress like a hoodlum. Even when i go with my dad i wave when we pass a truck some wave back. We were on 1-10 one night there's these two guys fighting like idiots over the cb. I tell myself i don't even fight like that and there was someone broken down on a mile marker, i think he got helped and worse it was at night. People these days there are some of the good and respectful drivers out there but the ####### behind a wheel get another job just becuase you thout truckers made money doesnt mean you should be driving.

I would qualify as a experienced driver (not necessarily old, but maybe), probably grumpy, but not at new drivers necessarily. But at stupidity. Like my number one is tailgating, I do not believe there is a more dangerous practice bar none. And I dont care if your driving a Super Train at 130,000 lbs or a Honda Civic. The very beginning of safety and courtesy driving is that following distance. Matters little how fast you drive if you do not exceed a safe following distance were probably ok. The Next is the guys how see you coming up the hammer lane at 70 - 75 MPH and they decide that is ok to pull out in front of you at the last minute because there moving 2 miles an hour faster than the next truck. Those shinny things bolted to your doors, there mirrors use them. This stuff is not just 4 wheelers or 18 wheelers I see both tring to merge there vehicles inot the rear or side of others. Now we put up with this for 20 plus year and over 3 million miles and you wonder why were grumpy. Its because I take great pride in being a A hole. Gods Speed be safe and use your mirrors, the life you save maybe mine...
-
Well I started in 82'...Was just as grumpy then as I am now...
And I'll stay grumpy til I get That load that pays a cool million to the driver..
AND ONLY GOES AROUND THE CORNER...
THEN I'LL BE JUST PEACHY..... -
Aw, hang some a' you guys with a brand new rope and you'd STILL complain...
