Forgive me for asking noob questions: I never went into U.S a lone (Always with my father and he is not here right now). I received my Omnitracs ELD and by default my HOS rule is set for CAN 7/70hrs.
Now my question is, In U.S total driver time is 11 hours where as in Canada it is 13 hours. If I enter U.S and get pulled into a scale will they check to make sure my total driving since I left Canada is under 11 hours? or only the driving in U.S is under 11 hours? For example, 3 hours in Canada + 9 hours in U.S?
Also, do I need to change my default CAN 7/70 rule to U.S 7/60 if I am driving in Canada like 50% of the time?
Anything else I need to know before I get started?

You need to be in compliance with the 11/14/70 so if you drove 11 already for the day and then crossed, you would have to stop and take 10.
If you are using the same kind of Omnitracs I use, go to the clocks tab on hours of service. You can record a border crossing and change the rule set by changing region.
That clocks tab also will show available time for USA, Canada Main, and Canada North -

And what about crossing back into Canada, I still use the 11/14/70 hour rule? -
When you go back in just change the region back to Canada main. It just makes keeping track of things easier. You can always look at the table to check available time in another region.
If you have Canada active the clock says MOT, and the US clock will show DOT.roshea Thanks this. -

No. You can only drive in the US for 11hours before you must take 10 off.
The minute you hit the inspection booth, you've violated the hours of service.
Once you're past 11 hours,stay in Canada and cross after you've had 10 hours off.tinytim and Champagne mane Thank this. -
You're not going to get a violation of any kind if you arrive at the border over 11 hours and stop there to sleep. Prime example is the Sweetgrass, MT crossing. There is a rest stop as soon as you clear the border. Stop there to get your 10 and you're golden... thousands of drivers have done just that.

I have a problem with this.
I ran under American Logging inside Canada. I expect Canadian to run under Canadian rules when inside the USA.
This is higher than my pay grade figure of speech, we need a Moose or someone who is a acknowledged expert to settle this one. -
