The first time I tasted a sweet onion was here in the USA.... never seen one down there in Brasil.... The same thing with the corn.... never seen a sweet corn in Brasil.... and sweet peas and sweet carrots....lovesthedrive, G13Tomcat and MagnumaMoose Thank this.

Sweet onions are 'rarely' really sweet... but SWEET CORN.. omigosh... the BEST. With this weather.. it's probably going to be a late harvest. Sweet peas go well in salads as well...and shaved carrots.

WOW!
There was very strong storm and very strong winds in MO yesterday.... the FJ in Warrenton had one of its power poles broken in the middle by the strong winds....
chopper103in and lovesthedrive Thank this. -
Yeah... folks like sweet food here... and in many other countries I guess... Me, I am not a fan of sweet food...
The corn in Brasil is not sweet at all... and folks boil it with salt... and then smear butter on it... That's how we eat corn down there....
Or they put it on a grill and let it grill...
lovesthedrive and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
In big cities in Brasil, vendors sell boiled corn with salt and butter.... I LOVE IT!!
lovesthedrive and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
We do that with our corn also!!! Not ALL corn is sweet here.. it's pretty pricey. We mix it up. We do the same.............boil salted, but LOVE it grilled ..we wrap in foil with butter in salt.
chopper103in, lovesthedrive, MagnumaMoose and 1 other person Thank this. -
Some street vendors at carnivals sell 'fried corn' like that. Never tried it; not a fan of fried foods....heck only knows what they use for oil. Deep fried corn, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, on and on... I'll steam it and eat it fresh, myself~!lovesthedrive, Rocks and MagnumaMoose Thank this.

A lot of our preferences in food and flavor is from what we're used to. I listened to a radio show yesterday that was about immigrants/refugees from Bhutan in Vermont. There's an organization that is trying to get farmland for them and help them grow foods that are native to their birth country ( Himalayas between China, East Pakistan and Nepal ). They enjoy very bitter foods.
That's certainly not what I enjoy.
McDonald's can't grow tomatoes in the part of the world around Singapore because of the climate, so they have banana ketchup ( or did in 91 ). It's definitely different.lovesthedrive, homeskillet, RedForeman and 3 others Thank this.
