Roof top ac vs apu

I know a guy with a very similar setup on his western star. He loves it. It was less than 1/4 the cost of an APU.

The AC I got on Amazon, the generator came from harbor freight.

 

Brother, you want to modify that vehicle tailpipe to run a Venturi pipe up over the roof when parked. What the RV’ers do.

 

I think you were wanting to reply to me. I already have an exhaust stack on the generator that puts the exhaust 13 1/2 feet in the air. It exits above the cab. No worries about gassing my neighbor in the truck stop.

 

Absolutely not. RV style air conditioners can only be flat mounted, or pretty close to it.

 

Roof mounts just look to trailer trashy and the last thing I would want to do is cut a hole in a perfectly non leaking roof.

 

If you are going to buy a apu, any type, buy it in a state that exempts truck parts from sales tax. You can save up to $1000.

Green Bay thermo king may have used tri packs.
I know they sell rebuilt reefer engines.

 

I pull flatbed so I've got a headache rack behind my cab, mind taking a measurement from back of sleeper wall to end of unit so I know how much room I'd need to mount it? Looking at different options, your setup looks really good and I like the idea of not having to deal with all the issues that come with an Apu. I've already got a 3500 watt inverter, might have to do some battery calculations and see what I would have to add to cut it the generator and maybe have the low battery auto start enabled on my truck.....
