And I would also have to go the single axle route for registration as RV.

Got to be a way around that. Another state I’d expect. Several people in my area have setups just like you’re describing, with mobile shops and living quarters, and have them set up as RV’s. I never asked the ins n outs of it as it in no way pertains to me.

The ones I know of are friends of friends or acquaintances of friends: no one I can hit up quickly right now for an answer.
There has to be a way-

I’m sure there are ways around it but at what cost and how much effort?
Plates were $450 and insurance is $2200 a year. I don’t need a CDL and the effort I would put into saving maybe $1000 a year quite honestly isn’t worth it.

I’d think the not needing to stop at weigh stations and not having to follow HOS would add something to the situation. YMMV.

Well...….I don't have to follow any HOS regulations and I don't even need a CDL to drive it so I am all set there.
As for the weight stations, #1 I don't drive enough to even worry about rolling through scales, This is a toy for me. #2 some scales even this set up as a RV would have to roll through.....you just have to follow the signs. For example, if I was a RV and scale sign said all commercial trucks must enter then I could roll past. BUT, pretty sure they would still run you down and ask what you are doing. Some scales say all vehicles over X amount of GVWR, which even a RV would have enter configured like this.
It makes no sense and I am sure a few of you O/O are going to be pissed that you have to follow all of these regs and somebody like me with no training whatsoever can hop in the seat and hold the steering wheel with nothing more than a passenger car drivers license but I don't make the rules.
