Oh, I thought you were going to give it 4 quarters and then reevaluate whether it was profitable to remain as a lease operator with Crete, if not, sell the truck and go back as a company driver.
My bad, I guess I misunderstood.
O/O looking for info on companies with load boards.

My timeframe for phase 1 is 4 quarters out of 5 maximum providing personal income & benefits roughly equivalent to my last year as a company driver. I say 4 out of 5 because my first quarter was a short quarter, and I wanted to give myself wriggle room if I had a lot of downtime in a quarter for reasons out of my control. -
I am looking for something with just a little more insulation between me and the billing and load haggling process.
It is interesting though, and worth looking at for stage 3, if I get that far. -
Find someone with a small company or like F2F, or something like that.
My next step is my own authority. But a Landstar / Mercer / Schneider is the only way to go to build a bank. And you may pick up a few good contacts along the way.
I leased onto a company called Triple C before Landstar. They paid ok. But they weren't self dispatch. They didn't do reefer either.
Landstar has a tiny, tiny amount of reefer. I wouldn't even recommend that here.Farmerbob1 and Scooter Jones Thank this. -
Really? -
Have you ever accepted a load that wasn't supposed to be hazmat, and then found out that it was hazmat after they handed you the bills?
The fact that they require hazmat endorsement worries me that such shenanigans might happen from time to time. -
I heard talk of some guys trying to get it rolling in the Chicago area, but anytime I just do a search to see what's out there, there's a handful of reefer loads.Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
I would say that right now is not the time for "load haggling".
-
But that is precisely why they require everyone to have it. It also provides them with a federal background check on you. A TWIC card is certainly worth it. There are some TWIC loads that pay A LOT. Canada, meh.
I don't think I've ever run into a situation where someone tried to slide it by.
It's posted as hazmat if it's hazmat. No you are not required to pull any of it.
You can sign up for the Landstar Webinar, and view our loadboard in real time, and see how it works. It's free, and you can do it multiple times.
If you do it, just do company van. Believe me.QuietStorm, dwells40, Farmerbob1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
And it's not that big of a deal to get your hazmat endorsement. Depending on where you live, a very few minutes.
Personally, I had to drive 2 hours to get to a place that does them. But if I lived there, I would not have had to.
Use the practice tests on this site and do them until you're confident. Then go take the test. You'll pass.
No big dealdwells40, Farmerbob1 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
