Yes. Cause those anchor points and chains never break. Unnecessary stupid risk just to avoid closing doors. SMH

 

If the door is latched to the side of the trailer correctly it shouldn’t swing at all.

 

I’m not saying leave them open. I’m saying if you accidentally do, and they are attached, they won’t be a problem.

 

It is not legal to operate on a public street with the swing doors open even if they are secured.

 

The motorcyclist in question is Brandon White and he is very much dead. He hit the back of this Yellow Freight truck going over 120 mph. It had nothing to do with driving around with the doors open.

 

I'd read that he survived (or at least in pictures). Anyway, there's no good reason to argue that leaving the doors open is perfectly safe. Often the conspicuity tape is there too.

 

Never leave your doors open. This is not a mistake you make. To leave them open meant that the driver pulled out of a dock and most likely just drove away. Removing chock and going back to truck is not enough to forget. If someone is that lost in thought to be able to forget to do something that big, then it’s time to move to a desk and save yourself and others from God knows what might happen if you stay behind the wheel. Now I’m no saint but I’ve never left them open more than just to get from the office to my door but never on a public road, that’s just asking for all kinds of trouble.

 

As I understand it, if the liftgate, when in the stored position, covers the bottom half or more of the opening of the back of the truck, it is legal to leave the door open.
