I just sent a complaint to the Illinois State Highway Authority due to a situation this morning that I was careless in and taken advantage of. Here is the complaint I sent.
Now, this usually never happens, but I had spent all day yesterday cruising those bloody tollways to make my deliveries and I already had half a dozen other toll receipts mixed in with all my cash. My wallet was a jumbled mess so it was no wonder that I lost track of that $10.00 like I did.
This has really made me reconsider the benefits of the I-Pass transponders. I never considered them due to how many times I actually have to pay for tolls in Illinois.
I hope that $10.00 was important to him, because it will cost him his job if I have any say in it. I don't care if he is disabled and deaf, bloody crook.

To play devils advocate, did you happen to go back and ask about the money? Also do you have the guys name or at least what toll lane number you were in? I don't mean to be negative but how do you prove to the authorities that you in fact did hand him extra money and he pocketed it. It is a classic case of "he said, she said" scenario. I wasn't there and only know what you posted by it seems hard as hell to prove from my perspective. But good luck anyway. It would not surprise me, those workers at most make $8.00 an hour. -
The receipt has a time stamp on it which can be pinpointed to his booth, I provided that info to the ISHA but omitted it from my post above.
Will anything happen? Probably not. But, they may begin to scrutinize the guy that ripped me off.
I'm not an opportunistic person, if someone erred in giving me change or a settlement, I always return what does not belong to me. That boyscout attitude is kinda dead in the world, but I see no gain in ripping people off. I expect only what rightfully belongs to me, nothing more.MuddyWaters Thanks this. -
Having been a victim of IL toll scams. I would lean toward this driver and what he says.
Calling in and reporting the offender, doesn't work. Stopping long enough to correct the "mistake" results in a fine for the driver. -
