Ha! When I picked that name I was semi retired, now it means the semi ITSELF is retired. Didn't you get enough info on the last posts? Quite frankly, being a new driver, you'll be the last to pick what you want. There's other things, like delivering new trucks, or work for Schneider picking up abandoned trucks( don't laugh, I knew a guy that's all he did). I just think trucking itself will be more than you want to do, and once you're in, they've got you, and you'll be doing just the opposite of what they told you. Years ago, you could be a part-time driver, there was so much to do, but today, it seems, everything is cut and dry, full loads everywhere, years ago, I had P/T a job picking up at little cheese factories,,all gone now. Good luck, I don't see it working for you, sorry. It's all or nothing today.
And I remember you, you and Chinatown tried to get me hooked up with an Asian gal. The jury is still out on that one,,,;) I'm in Colorado now that has a VERY low Asian population,,,I wonder why?

Another option would be going the charter bus driver or motor coach operator route (whatever sounds like a better title to you for the same job).

You get to do plenty of driving and when you take groups somewhere, the driver is usually paid for by the group as well. It's like being paid to go see sight-seer stuff.

If you think for a minute, these companies are going to offer part time, you're sadly mistaken. It's a ploy to get good people in their grips, and before you know it, you'll be heading to Wilkes-Barre PA with a load of axx-wipe. I know from experience, that's how it works,,,;)

I know nothing on Schneider, But there are part-time CDL jobs, maybe you are looking for oil field wash trucks perhaps they want you have a CDL or the mechanic in the oil field needs a shop swept and then ask you move a truck across the way another parking lot they may ask you have a CDL. There's also construction as a dump truck driver, water trucker driver you can get a 20-30 hours average on those sometimes but mostly gonna be 40 hour weeks you can find them just maybe harder.

There's also seasonal work. My last trucking gig I did, was work for a cranberry farm loading trailers and shuttling them across the yard where road drivers would take them. It was about 6-7 weeks, paid ok, no road work, that was the best part. Lot of fall harvest stuff, same thing, round the clock , then nothing, but i've tried jobs like you describe. One place, guy was a good friend of my ex-gf, was a OTR driver, I was SUPPOSE to deliver the loads he brought back from where ever, and he could take a break and reload for him to take far away. Sounds good, no? Well, that worked for about a month, then he said, "you have to take this load of cheese to somewhere in PA, from Wis, just this once",,, ok, big mistake. After I emptied out, he said, hang tight, I may have a backhaul,,,after 10 hours sitting in a truckstop, my gf said, "you come home right now", so I did. He was pissed, and said, I had to grab this load of french fries for Dayton. Sigh, ok, I said, but this is the last time. Got the fries off,,,same thing, hung out in Dayton until evening, and said, THAT'S IT!. And dead headed back home again. These companies send you out, something changes, and you're the only one that can do this, and trying to be a good employee, you do it, but they don't see it that way. Drive their truck, you have to do what they say. Really hard to find a p/t semi job.

It is not often a company hangs me out to "Dry"

One time Ronnie Dowdy in Batesville Dispatch asked me a big favor. It's not often they ask a favor by those exact words but would I stay in the Brass Foundry in Buffalo NY for a while (Maybe a week...) and be a yard jockey loading trailers for our drivers coming in to get them without the wait. I already loaded for Lonoke AR remington Arms and it's a form of winter keeping reefer at 60 degrees on half fuel tank. I had not had a oppertunity to reset the truck and myself before next load and here I am shuffling trailers with a gigantic Condo truck. (FLD120)

I did ok, kept my mouth shut and it worked out. I don't remember how little I was paid for the time. But I was paid something. So it was not too bad. Keep in mind to come from 12000 miles a month give or take two, to spotting trailers is a big mindset change. I was getting bored going into my day two there. But again I kept my mouth shut. If they are happy, they will find a way to pay me. And they did. After I was empty in Lonoke, they asked me which of these three places would I like to haul? I took the longest one of the three. And it worked out well.

I had to run the reefer cycle until I found fuel and the more south I got the easier the reefer did not have to work.
